« on: December 28, 2004, 01:28:27 AM »
hey there, people, I have a problem with some sort of hijacker that took over my desktop. its name, Smart-Securaty. Ive tried a whole bunch of things that do not seem to work and they are as follow: Spybot sd, BHO demon, CWShredder. Ad-Aware freezes in the middle of a search and I also have Hijack this but I dont know who to send the list that they give me to. if someone could help me out I would appreciate it, thanks.

Hi Big Chudeezy

Let's try and see that Hijackthis log
But if you can, could you post it in the Tech Clinic Forum
Here's a link---Just edit this post and start a new post over here
http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.ph...php?showforum=4

I hope your using Hijackthis 1.99
If not you can download this version from
HERE or HERE

Open Hijackthis and do a System Scan and Save log file
Save the log and a new text window will open
click the EDIT button at the top
SELECT ALL>>and then EDIT>>>COPY

Come back and start a new post in the Tech Clinic forum
In your reply left click once in the reply box and then Right click and select Paste
This will ensure your whole log is posted

We should be able to deal with Smart-Security after that

I had the same problem - ran ad-aware it didn't find anything ran "spybot search and destroy" it found it. I deleted the spyware but  it came back.

I then went to Control Panel - Display - Web and there was a check box with "security" ticked (I assume a reference to smart security). I unchecked this and then ran Microsoft Antispyware this also found it and this time it deleted it - the hijacked screen did not reappear.

There was also an html file called desktop.html in C:\windows\web which I deleted as this seemed to be the page that was being loaded by the spyware.
