Where are you trying to download DirectX from?

Are you signed on with Adminstrative privileges?
You can try this, not sure if it will help
Right click the MyComputer Icon and left click properties
Open the Hardware Tab and then click the Driver Signing
Set to Warn instead of Block if that is how it is set

Also, before installing DirectX, be sure to set a new Restore Point
Go to START>>ALL Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Create a Restore point
Name it and click Create

I was trying to download directx directly from microsoft.com but yet it says it doesnt have the windows approved logo. Anyone have any clue on how to turn this logo thing off so i can download directx 9.0. I am on the adminstarter name. but it still doesnt work for some reason.

That doesn't make sense if your getting it from Bill Gates
I wonder if it has anything to do with Video drivers installed on the machine aren't Microsoft signed so they won't let you update
I wouldn't get my Video Drivers from Microsoft, I stick with the manufacturer
EG>>Ati or Nvidia

Try this if you can
Go to START<<RUN>>type in dxdiag and hit ok
Let it load
See if there is a check in "Check for WHQL digital Signatures"
If there is uncheck it
Also see if you have any problems in there

Log off and back on again
Try updating again
Make sure you are trying from Microsoft

If no go I'll take a further look
May not be till tomorrow, New Years Eve and all

I think that's where the problem may be
Can you let me know what Video card you have in your computer
or the computer itself

Do you know what Video Card you have?
This may help
Download Belarc Advisor
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Install and run it
what System Model do you have>>Info is under System Model
and can you give me the info under Display

Don't post all the info from Belarc Advisor, just what's needed

Go ahead and edit out the information you supplied about
System model and Serial number

I know Nvidia has WHQL certified drivers
What model of computer do you have?

You should be able to find that info
Right click the MY Computer icon and left click properties
Info is under the General Tab
or it may be stamped on the front of the Computer

Go here and download the nvidia driver update
HP Support

Install it and restart your computer
If you run into problems simply open up device manager
Right click MY Computer>>left click properties>>>Hardware>>
Device Manager
Display>>>Roll back the driver

Or try the latest drivers by Nvidia

Just curious as to if this is a nvidia setting. I checked my brothers pc he has a GeForce2 and has the same problem. I checkd all of the above with his computer and sme results. Is it possible that it is a nvidia settting? Or could it be from a program like norton or some other anti virus thing? I'm just trying to throw things out there but i honestly have no clue if they do effect it.

That site you supplied worked for me, Thanks. However now i updated my directx 9.0c and it says that it is unable to start up my 3d accelerate. I updated my gfx card. But i havent tried extracting my directx, i tried that site you supplied in a previous post. However it did not let me download, it was a failed link. I was just curious if you know any other sites or how to do it manually?

Did you create a Restore point before installing Direct X?
What site did I link you too?
