I have a real annoying problem!  Everytime I restart my computer I have a desktop search in the lower right hand portion of the screen.  I have read your replies reference this creature.  I downloaded HJT and did the scan all with Ad-Ware but it still appears.  I dont know how to get the damn thing off.  I cannot browse on MSN but I can on internet explorer if I go into the task manager and end the process of desktop.exe.  I need help!!!!!  Here is the HJT log.

Hi Keven,

Download and Install Spybot S&D 1.3
When Installing, please don't enable TEA TIMER, it's a great addon to Spybot but it can get in our way to do any manual fixes.. This can be enabled at a later time if you want it
After installation--Click the Update button on the left, in the window on the right click the
SEARCH FOR UPDATES button, Check and download all updates
Close down Spybot for now, we'll do a scan later

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Restart your computer into SAFE MODE

Find and delete these files or folders if they exist
C:\install.cab <--file
C:\WINDOWS\BTGrab.dll <--file
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs <--this folder

Stay in safe mode
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

In the right window, click the
Check for Problems Let it complete it's scanning---Ensure to check and FIX Selected problems>>everything in RED---they should be checked by default

RESTART your computer back to Normal mode

Post back a fresh hijackthis log afterwards

Thank you greatly for the help, I was able to get rid of that damn desktop search and havent found any other problems yet!

Few question though!
During the search and destroy search at the end there was an error, it read "Error during check!" then "Z-Demon followed by (ungultiger datentyp fur) obviously another language there was periods above the "U's".  Also it did not check "Ebay toolbar" We use ebay so I figured that was ok, could you advise?  It did fix 45 out of 49 problems the 4 it didnt fix were the 4 entries under the ebay toolbar!  It did however place a green check by everthing else including the Z-Demon!

Do I delete the HJT backup files?  Or do I keep them?

Do a Disk Cleanup>>Start>>run>>type in cleanmgr and hit Enter

Also let me know the exact error message from Spybot if you can

JavaCool said it was already installed.  When I searched for it, it was a picture modifying program the wife uses.  I couldnt find any other program but it kept saying it was already installed on the computer.  No problems with the ie spyad program, I unzip'd it and it was on C: and readable.  Here is the HJT log!

If your happy with McAfee's, it should be almost as good as other AV's
This is assuming that it is kept up to date

However, I must admit I use 2 free AV's on my computers
You only need one though

If McAfee's subscription has ran out, and you don't want to renew it you can go this route

Of course Install SpywareBlaster and IE-Spyad
Hold onto Spybot and Ad-Aware and check for updates every couple of weeks and run scans

You can use Spybot's Immunization feature and built in Tea Timer for more protection

Simply click the START NEW at the top

Could you also save Hijackthis to a Permanent folder
Move it or Redownload
Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE
Save it to that new folder
