Downloader.Dyfica.3.E
« on: January 03, 2005, 02:04:12 AM »
I constantly get this pop-up that my AVG Anti-virus Shield blocked:
"Downloader.Dyfica.3.E" and that I should run AVG to clean.  I run AVG but it doesn't seem to find anything.  So I read on these forums about this program "HiJackThis".  So I downloaded it, ran it, and have a log, but I have no idea what I'm looking at and what I should do with it now.  Can someone help me with this "Downloader.Dyfica.3.E" error?

Let's try some cleanup
Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05
Ensure you have this version, or the Professional series
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates online link and Connect to download the latest updates
Don't run a Scan yet

Access your Add/Remove Programs via Control Panel and Uninstall if found
any of the below
Admilli Service
WindUpdates
NaviSearch
Bullseye Network
Cashback by Bargain Buddy
Web_Rebates
180 Solutions
ShopatHome
NCase
WINDOWS SERVEAD

You may not find all the above, let me know what you do see and were able to remove, if anything is not able to be removed in Normal mode
Could you please

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

I prefer you restart in safe mode to run Ad-Aware
Open Ad-Aware
Perform a Full system scan---Uncheck "Search for Negligible Risk Entries" before running
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer back to Normal mode

Post back a Fresh hijackthis log afterwards for some final cleaning

Awesome.  I really appreciate this.  I went to add/remove programs and found and removed:
Admilli Service
Bullseye Network
Web_Rebates

I don't have anything that says "180 Solutions", but there is a "180SearchAssistant" in there.  Should I remove that?

I'll reboot in safe and run Adaware.  Be right back.

Wow, Ad-Aware sure picked up more objects than my old version running in normal mode.  Only about 100 more objects.  Here's my latest HiJackThis log I just took after removing those programs, rebooting in safe mode, running Ad-aware and then rebooting in normal mode again:

That's looking better
What version of Spybot are you running?
Is it the latest
If your not sure open up Spybot>>Click on HELP>>ABOUT
Let me know Spybot version and Latest detection date

If everything is running better you should Disable System Restore>>Restart your computer>>Enable System Restore
This will erase all your restore points and ensure that you don't restore any nasties
and it creates a fresh restore point when reenabled
Link will show you how if your unsure
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/Disa...eSysRestore.htm

After you disable system restore, but before restarting
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
I'm going to ask you to remove Redclientapps, related too Red Sheriff Spyware

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/08e2c15f59d4a4...ip/RdxIE601.cab

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
YES and exit Hijackthis

RESTART your computer
Remember to Reenable System Restore when your back in Windows

Good move on updating AVG 6 to AVG 7, I was going to recommend that

Another great utility to help clean your temp folders, cookies, prefetch folder
Windows Cleanup
A small download, once it's installed
I like to start in safe mode>>Open Cleanup and click the CleanUp button
Let it finish scanning for files, when it's done it will prompt you to log off and back on
Simply restart back into Normal mode

If you have a legit version of Windows installed, I would also recommend that you install some Windows updates to keep your system secure
If your not ready to update to Service Pack 2>>>there's some steps I like to do before updating to this
You may want to update to Service Pack 1a
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/default.mspx
As mentioned it has needed security patches
Restart your computer after installation and then visit Windows updates and get All latest Critical updates
Excluding>>Service Pack 2 and Recommended updates

To enhance your privacy and security
You should set up protection against future attacks

You should install these 2 apps., they add extra security while
silently protecting you, without running in the background

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link==Download link
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free! or IE-SPYAD2.EXE Free!

Regular IE-Spyad for the individual user or IE-Spyad 2 for global protection(All users) on your computer
You only need one or the other

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

Post back one more hijackthis log afterwards, do what you can above
Everything I mentioned above is important to keep your system secure

Spybot is v1.2
System Restore was disabled.
I removed those entries from HiJackThis as you said.
I ran Windows Cleanup yesterday.
I installed SpywareBlaster & IE-SpyAd2.
I re-enabled System Restore.

Here's my log now:

Well, the log looks good
You have some optional fixes that don't need to be running on startup
But unless your not worried about them, I won't post what I prefer to disable http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

I would uninstall your version of Spybot from Add/Remove programs and install the latest version
Spybot 1.2 has not been updating for quite a long time now
After you uninstall spybot
Download and Install the latest version from this link
Spybot S&D 1.3

After installation--Click the Update button on the left, in the window on the right-- click the  SEARCH FOR UPDATES button, Check and download all updates

Restart Spybot
Click the "Search and Destroy" Button
In the right window, click the
Check for Problems Let it complete it's scanning---Ensure to check and FIX everything in RED---they should be checked by default

RESTART your computer to finish the Cleaning process

How's everything running?

Everything seems to be running fine.  I wasn't really experiencing much of a problem before, I just couldn't rid that pop-up and I knew I had something on this computer that shouldn't be there.

I appreciate all your help.  So I should be okay now?

There are 2 programs that I don't want to load on start-up though:

MSN Instant Messenger (I use this sometimes, but not all the time and would rather prefer to just launch it when I want to).

Yahoo Instant Messenger (This I don't use, that's my girlfriend).

everything looks good, but I would uninstall your version of Spybot and install the latest one
Spybot 1.2 is obsolete

Again, if you have a legit version of Windows installed
Take advantage of the Windows updates or some problems may return
I supplied a link to Service Pack 1a
and instructions

It is important to keep up on them

If at any future time you plan on updating to SP2
I can give you a hand with the install

Just editing this
With MSN Messenger, simply right click the Messenger Icon by the clock
Check out the Options or Preferences or General tabs
Uncheck it running on system startup
Let me know if you can find an option like that with Yahoo also

If they return post back

P.S. You can also have hijackthis fix these entries too
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\MESSEN~1\ypager.exe -quiet

I would also fix this one
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
But beforehand enter your task manager and shut it down realsched.exe
Navigate to realsched.exe and rename it too realsched.old
This will ensure it won't startup, Realplayer works fine without it
May be named just realsched, by default Windows XP hides extensions for know file types
To show extensions
* Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

This one here can be fixed with hijackthis
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe
Beforehand go into your control panel
Double click on the Java Plugin
Open the Update tab and uncheck "Check for updates automatically"
By the way, there's been an update to Java
So having that running on startup doesn't seem to be doing any good

Additionally
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
If you don't need that running on startup
Enter Quick times preferences beforehand and disable it from running on startup and then fix it with hijackthis

This one can be fixed with Hijackthis
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
Microsoft programs work fine without it
Here's some additional info
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?fil...XE&count=&type=

The above are all optional but can increase system startup times
and the system uses less resources
Just hold onto the backups made by hijackthis until your happy with the way everything is running
If you need to restore anything, just open the backups from within hijackthis and restore them

Just a little cleanup to do
But first
Would you mind starting your own post in this forum
Adding on to someone elses post makes it a long thread and gets confusing

If you would, after starting your own post
Please repost your Hijackthis log

Before you post back your Hijackthis log in your own post
You may consider updating AVG 6
I assume your using the free version----It lifespan has come to an end

Here's what I do
Go to this link and download the installer for the free version of AVG 7
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Save the Installer to desktop, but don't install it yet

Access your Task Manager(Right click the bottom Taskbar----Select Task Manager)
End process on anything to do with AVG

Access your add/remove programs and Remove AVG 6
Restart your computer when prompted
Back in Windows
Find and delete this folder
C:\Program Files\Grisoft <--this folder

Install AVG 7>>Restart again if prompted
Let AVG update and run a full system scan

As mentioned, do the above---Start your own post with a fresh hijackthis log and we'll cleanup the leftovers

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?
