Norton Help Please
« on: January 09, 2005, 04:59:24 PM »
Ok.  I purchased Norton Systemworks 2005 a few months ago.  It hasn't worked right since I installed it.  I'v uninstalled and reinstalled, and this last time I uninstalled it won't let me reinstall.  I get an error message that says...

"SETUP REQUIREMENT CHECK - Setup has detected that a previous Install or Uninstall has been required but requires a restart.  Please restart your computer then launch setup again."

I've rebooted a number of times.  I've tried the old "SYMClean" utility, it sees nothing on my drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Stacey...

Hi Stacey, You can check out this link from Norton's Support

Many times this can happen when there are viruses or other malware on your computer

Norton's will link you to an Autmated Support
Which does not always work

After following Nortons' to Completely remove System Works from your computer

You may want to post a Hijackthis log
Can you Download Hijackthis 1.99
A small utility to help identify if any Hijackers, Malware, Spyware, etc.....Reside on your computer

Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE
Save it to that new folder

Do a SCAN and Save a Log file---Save the log----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log back here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

If you decide to Download hijackthis could you start a new post in the TECH CLINIC forum
A couple forums down on the General page
Or follow THIS LINK

After a complete uninstall of Norton's and if we clean you of all Virus or malware on your computer the Reinstallation of Norton's should go smooth

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

If you want an excelent Anti-Spam/Internet Security/Anti-Virus Software buy Trend Micro Internet Security 2005. It's cheaper than norton, runs faster, uses less memory and extreamly simple to comfigure and use. Trust me go to

www.trendmicro.com and try a copy.
