I need some serious help... my comp is f&^%$@
« on: January 17, 2005, 06:45:29 PM »
My computer is totally littered with spyware.  One of them, the most annoying, takes over my desktop.  Right now, it's a black screen and says, "WARNING! Your in Danger.  All you do with the computer is stored forever. . . ."  I also have an icon on my desktop called, "TEEN [insert four letter word] PICS" that WILL NOT go away.  Just now, literally, a box with a thing that shows its progress popped up, it pops up all the time, that said, "Please wait while we prepare the plugin."  Usually, right after that, it says something about not being able to find a modem (I have a cable modem).  I also get a lot of spyware that is from a messenger service advertising for different programs (ie. www.updatenow.com and www.patchnow.com)  They address changes all the time, but it still looks the same.  Please, someone help me.  I have tried a few different adware/spyware removal programs, but, either they don't work or I'm just dumb.  Currently, I have Spybot - Search and Destroy.  I just got the computer back from someone fixing this very problem.  Obviously, it did nothing.  I'm five seconds from throwing this flippin' thing off the side of a bridge.  I'm need your help.

Thanks So Much,
Dar

Click on this link to download ad-aware free.   http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Click download from downloads.com

Do a full system scan. And remove everything that ad-aware finds.

As well as Edwards great suggestion
Spybot and Ad-Aware SE compliment each other very well

Could you also
Download Hijackthis 1.99
A small utility to help identify if any Hijackers, Malware, Spyware, etc.....Reside on your computer

Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE
Save it to that new folder

Do a SCAN and Save a Log file---Save the log----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

A little work, but let's try to help identify if you have a Hidden installer

But first
Can you also Restart your computer
Don't run Ad-aware and Spybot again until we're done with some fixes

Can you Download DLLCompare

Start the Program and click the Run Locate.com
Default settings should work---C:\Windows\System32 directory
Let it complete the SCAN, which won't take long
Click the Compare button to start the next process.This will take a bit longer.

When it's done click the Make a log of what was found button and post it back here

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Download
Windows CleanUp! by StevenGould
Install for now but, Don't run a scan yet
This will clean all your temp folders, cookies, prefetch, etc...

Download and UNZIP to a folder
HOSTER by Toadbee

Download and save to Desktop the Standalone version of CWShredder.exe
Don't run a scan yet

Now that you have the tools
Can you print the rest of this out or save it to a Notepad file on the desktop for easy access
I need you to Disconnect from the Internet and start in safe mode

But first
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Restart your computer into SAFE MODE

Find and delete these files and folders if they exist

C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe <--file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dibkp.dll <--file, may not exist

C:\Program Files\WebSiteViewer <--folder

Stay in safe mode

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

Are you trying in safe mode?

Try going to safe mode again
This time Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc Tools>>Open Process Manager
Kill this process if still running
C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe

Then try and delete the file
Make sure it's kernels32.exe
Don't mistake it for kernel32.dll

Do what you can than restart to Normal mode and post back a fresh hijackthis log

Okay, we have to try this again
Try this in Normal mode
kernels32.exe is  a trojan

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

Sure, disconnect from the Internet, but print the instructions first
Just follow the directions I'm giving you  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'<_<\' />

I meant the instructions from my reply above with Hijackthis, CWShredder,
Hoster and Cleanup

Did you Install it?

Go to Start>>All Programs
In will be in the Program menu bar
Expand cleanup and click on the Cleanup Icon (Hand with yellow rag)

Again, do as much as you can and then post back a fresh hijackthis log

EDIT>>>Well that's it for me tonight, I won't see your updated Hijackthis log until tomorrow after work, If it looks similiar to the last ones than instructions weren't followed
But I trust you will figure it out

I'll check back tomorrow evening to see how your log looks..........

We should get some tools on your computer later so this won't happen again

Till tomorrow, Nite   http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
