« Reply #1 on: January 22, 2005, 03:56:18 PM »
Ensure your running the latest version of Ad-Aware Se 1.05
If not download that version and install it allowing it to uninstall any old versions

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Restart your computer into SAFE MODE

Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc Tools>>Open Process Manager>>Kill these processes if still running
C:\WINDOWS\wikuh.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Lmhrzx.exe
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\aour.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\??anregw.exe

Find and delete these files or folders if they exist
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpgugqwa.dll <--file
C:\WINDOWS\wikuh.exe <--file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Lmhrzx.exe <--file
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\aour.exe <--file

C:\Program Files\ISTsvc <--foler

Stay in safe mode
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AB074F61-DBF6-A977-D719-861DF04F11C2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpgugqwa.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [muRjkU] C:\WINDOWS\wikuh.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [secure] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Lmhrzx.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IST Service] C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Astd] C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\aour.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Diib] C:\WINDOWS\system32\??anregw.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
YES and exit Hijackthis

Again in safe mode
Open Ad-Aware
Perform a Full system scan--"Uncheck Search for Negligible Risk Entries" before scanning
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer again back to Normal mode  to finish the cleaning process

Post back with a Fresh hijackthis log afterwards

Could you also
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad) hit Enter
Copy the whole contents of the Quote box to notepad
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as FindFile.bat

Quote
dir C:\WINDOWS\system32\??anregw.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Double click on FindFile.bat
It will produce a log--files.txt>>Copy and paste that back here too, thaks

As you can see by the file.txt there is a file that exists
However you won't be able to see the ?? marks if you search for it

Navigate to your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder

You can use the view menu and select details to help organize the files on the right hand side
Look for one Created on this date 01/11/2005
and this size approx. 400 Kb
It should contain the ??anregw.exe after the ? marks

Right click on it and delete it

Post back with a fresh hijackthis log and let me know if you found the file

You will have too allow the change if Spyware Doctor is trying too interfere with the fixes
or shutdown SpywareDoctors protections altogether

restart your computer into safe mode and try the fixes again

You can just have Hijackthis fix this entry
O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll (file missing)

Before restarting, if everything is running better
you should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link==Download link
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free! or IE-SPYAD2.EXE Free!

Regular IE-Spyad for the individual user or IE-Spyad 2 for global protection(All users) on your computer
You only need one or the other

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

Post back and let me know how everything is running

It's normal to have more than one instance of svchost.exe running in your processes

I didn't mean for you to uninstall Spyware Doctor
But mind you, I don't have that much faith in it

I would stick with Ad-Aware and Spybot for Spyware Removal

Spyware Blaster and IE-Spyad for that Silent Spyware Blocker

For Real time protection against Spyware
Works a lot like AV software, except for spyware
Consumes a lot less resources
You may want to look at
SpywareGuard 2.2
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

If everything is OK on your end

Stay safe and happy surfing  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

I didn't mean for you to uninstall Spyware Doctor, but now that it's uninstalled
You actually don't need it

Install Spyware Blaster and IE-Spyad
Both don't run in the background and considered silent SpywareBlockers

Hold onto Ad-Aware and spybot to remove any spyware
Optional---Install Spyware Guard for Realtime protection against spyware

If you want the BHO protection that SpywareDoctor gave you

Open Spybot>>Click on MODE at the Top
Advanced mode>>Yes to the prompt
Click On TOOLS
RESIDENT

Put a check in Resident SDHelper

Gmail>>No thanks
The wife talked me into getting one a few months back
So we now both have one
I have 6 invites to give away if there are any takers  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
Already gave away 6
