Internet explorer is crashing at startup - some popups were removed (desktop.exe etc).. not sure if there are more.. Attached is HJT log Please help!!!!!

Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates

Perform a Full system scan--"Uncheck Search for Negligible Risk Entries" before scanning
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer  to finish the cleaning process

Download and Install Spybot S&D 1.3
When Installing, please don't enable TEA TIMER, it's a great addon to Spybot but it can get in our way to do any manual fixes.. This can be enabled at a later time if you want it
After installation--Click the Update button on the left, in the window on the right click the
SEARCH FOR UPDATES button, Check and download all updates
Click the "Search and Destroy" Button
In the right window, click the
Check for Problems Let it complete it's scanning---Ensure to check and FIX everything in RED---they should be checked by default
RESTART your computer to finish the Cleaning process

If you can't run any of those in Normal mode try in Safe mode

When your back in Windows
I need you to redownload Hijackthis from my Signature below
Save it to a Permanent folder>>Not to the Temp folder
Backups will be made and lost if we clean out your temp folders

Do another scan and post a fresh log

Did the AD Aware (regularly been doing it) and the Spybot as suggested... still having the same issues with IE crashing / getting stuck at start... The processes sometime hit 100% memory (some svchost.exe processes eating big chunks).. downloaded Hijackthis from your signature and attached is the log.. please let me know whatelse needs to be done..Thanks

Save this to a Notepad file or txt file on desktop for reference
Close down all browser windows, including this one

Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Process manager

Sorry for the delay
The BHO's still there are usually a problem with some sort of
Spyware or Security software running in the background that won't allow the change to the registry

I don't see nothing in your log that would indicate you have that sort of protection running
If you do, could you disable it and then fix those entries with Hijackthis
Restart your computer and see if they come back

If not
Can you download and install Registrar lite
A great free utilitly, you may want to hold onto this

Open the program after it's installed
Copy and Paste this into the address field and then hit GO

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects

Still on the left hand side do you see these entries in bold under
Browser Helper Objects?

{1B776A1C-47A3-4506-48D4-D6B1BBD110AF}

{C24EAD5C-A742-3B03-B25B-1AE1B7327CB0}

If you do, can you right click on them one at a time and choose EXPORT
Name it and save it to a convenient location<< This is backup purposes
and then right click and  select DELETE
If they wont delete try right click on them and select Properties
Take Ownership and then try deleting them again

Next:
Copy and paste this into the Address bar of RegLite and Hit GO

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1B776A1C-47A3-4506-48D4-D6B1BBD110AF}

Then Right click on {1B776A1C-47A3-4506-48D4-D6B1BBD110AF}
Choose EXPORT
Name it and save it and then Right click and delete it

Do the same for this entry

Exit out of Registrar Lite

Restart your computer and post back with a fresh log

If that doesn't work, I still may have another method

Did registrar lite with the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects
and deleted the two entries you mentioned.


But the second step of looking for :HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1B776A1C-47A3-4506-48D4-D6B1BBD110AF}
did not find anything, same for the other entry. So I presume they were both deleted in step 1.

Thanks for posting back kuru, everything looks fine now

If your still having problems post back with a fresh hijackthis log

If everything is running fine
You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature
