"search the web" toolbar plague
« Reply #2 on: February 13, 2005, 01:06:59 PM »
Can you redownload Hijackthis from my signature below
You saved your copy to a Temp directory
Please create a permanent folder for hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Post back with a fresh log after running Hijackthis from that location

Could you also let me know if you purposely installed
MySpace toolbar, and if you have still have it or have you removed it?

Also, I want to check on something
Open SPYBOT>>CLick on Help at the top
About>>Let me know spybot version and latest detection date

Open Ad-Aware>>Click on DETAILS
Let me know Reference No. and Internal build, thanks

"search the web" toolbar plague
« Reply #4 on: February 13, 2005, 02:50:08 PM »
Print this out or save to a Notepad file on the desktop

Also know how to start in SAFE MODE
I'll need you to do that shortly

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Close out all other windows, including this one

Go to a Command Prompt
START>>>Run>>type in cmd
Hit Ok
Type in these commands
I'm adding (=) signs, don't include them, they are just to let you know where to add a space

cd=C:\Windows\System32 (hit Enter)
regsvr32=/u=stlb2.dll (hit Enter)

Type exit and hit Enter
It will look like this
cd C:\Windows\System32
regsvr32 /u stlb2.dll

Restart your computer into safe mode

Find and delete these files or folders if they exist
C:\WINDOWS\System32\stlb2.dll <--file
C:\windows\system32\msnavc32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Mrouwp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netsync.exe
C:\windows\system32\elitevot32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\winiiek32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Gyvfbt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntvtext.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msftmgr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sssasasb32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\msexploren.exe
C:\windows\bundles\adl_mteststub.exe

Search for these next files and delete them if they exist
D0CE0C16B1
E6F1873B.DLL
D9EBC318C

C:\Program Files\pz3xmkqt <--this folder
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs <--folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsxsvc <--folder

Stay in safe mode
Go to START>>RUN>>type in %temp%
Hit OK
In the New window
Click EDIT>>SELECT ALL
Delete the selected

Access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

Looks good, How's everything on your end?

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free! or IE-SPYAD2.EXE Free!

Regular IE-Spyad for the individual user or IE-Spyad 2 for global protection(All users) on your computer
You only need one or the other

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

Also, you don't appear to be running the latest version of Sun Java
Your not running the latest version of Sun Java
I would recommend you update

Here's what I usually do...
Go to this site
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Manually download the full Install to desktop (Offline Installation)
Access your Add/Remove Programs and Remove the version your running now
Restart the computer once removed
Install the latest version
Restarted again
As I said, I just have better luck doing it this way
You may find that the update feature in the Control Panel
Java Plugin works also
It's a fair size download, but decide which way your more comfortable with

On cable it takes about a minute>> 15.4mb
Personally I shut down the update feature in Java and check manually
Up to you, can be disabled in the Control Panel>>>>Java
