ISTsvc
« on: February 13, 2005, 08:33:21 PM »
ISt svc is the only thing that I recognize that I need to get rid of, but if anyone sees any other problems that I might want to get rid of I'd be very happy to know.

Thanks

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: PAVWAIT.DLL WBSYS.DLL,wbsys.dll
That line, one may indicate you have\had Panda's AV installed and possibly
Stardock WindowBlinds
Can you let me know if you still have those programs installed

===Download and save this GoHip Uninstaller
Don't run it yet

===Download and save to Desktop the
FixIstbar.exe from Symantecs
Don't run it yet

===Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad) hit Enter
Copy the whole contents of the Quote box to notepad, not including the word Quote
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop, well need this later, don't run it yet

Please print the rest of this out or save to a Notepad file on the desktop
I will also need you to restart into Safe mode soon, I supplied a link below if your unsure
Disconnect completely from the Internet

Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc Tools section>>Open process manager
Kill these processes if running
C:\WINDOWS\bvwqwg.exe
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: IPInsigtObj Class - {000004CC-E4FF-4F2C-BC30-DBEF0B983BC9} - C:\WINDOWS\ipinsigt.dll (file missing)

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: PAVWAIT.DLL WBSYS.DLL,wbsys.dll

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Run the GoHip Uninstaller
Follow the prompts..Close out any browser window that may open

Restart your computer into Safe mode

Find and delete these files or folders if they exist
C:\WINDOWS\System\WinStart001.EXE <--file
C:\WINDOWS\bvwqwg.exe <--file

C:\Program Files\ISTsvc <--folder
C:\Program Files\MediaLoads Enhanced <--folder
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IEService <--this folder

Double click on fix.reg and allow it to merge to the registry

Stay in safe mode
Run the FixIstBar removal tool from Symantec's
Let it finish scanning your hard drive
Follow prompts

Restart back to Normal Mode

Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Perform a Full system scan--"Uncheck Search for Negligible Risk Entries" before scanning
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer to finish the cleaning process

I don't see any Anti-Virus software running on your computer
If I'm mistaken, or you have your own disabled or not installed
Install it now or enable
Run a full updated system scan
If you don't have your own and need a free solution
I very much recommend that you install the Free version of AVG 7
Yours for free and includes free updates for the life of the product

From this link
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
Scroll down and click on the
avg70free_300a419.exe link
Save the Installer to desktop
Run the Installer, once it's installed, you may be prompted to Restart
Do so, then ensure it's updated and run a full system scan

Post back a fresh hijackthis log afterwards

Thank you so much for your timely help.

In reguards to your question, I do not have Panda AV installed, nor do I have WindowBlinds installed.  It seems whenever I download an anti-virus program my computer goes crazy. I'm unsure if I am installing it wrong, or if it's something else.

I've done everything you have asked up to the point of saving the quote box in notepad. I haven't run my computer in safe mode yet because I was unsure if Panda or WindowBlinds would affect it in any way.

When you give me the "thumbs up" I'll go ahead and run my computer in safe mode and post a fresh HijackThis log.

Thanks again!

Go ahead with the rest of the fix, I'm off to work so I won't see your log until later
I've edited the above post to include one item for fixing with Hijackthis
Try and install the AV after you have done the fixes

Sorry for the delay
Thanks for posting back wisdom_of_trees, everything looks fine now
How's everything on your end?

If your still having problems post back with a fresh hijackthis log

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free! or IE-SPYAD2.EXE Free!

Regular IE-Spyad for the individual user or IE-Spyad 2 for global protection(All users) on your computer
You only need one or the other

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

I'll lock this topic shortly, if you need it reopened please PM a Mod or the site Admin
and supply a link to this thread

Stay safe

EDIT>>I just noticed you also posted your log at Computer Cops
They're a busy bunch over there..... It may be best if you advise them that your problems are resolved.....If, in fact you are having no more problems
It's just good practice, you may end up having one of the helpers at CC needlessly looking over your log  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
