video/audio problem...
« on: February 20, 2005, 01:01:58 AM »
Just installed Windows XP Home cause it's been about 6 months since last time I did...usually do it twice a year.  only this time...I added a new 200GB drive to my box.  I have 2x80GB in Raid-0, SB Audigy, GF3 Ti500, XP2400, Abit KV7, 400W/PSU.  For some reason when I installed my new 200GB drive...anytime i write large amounts of data (50MB+) to or from it my monitor would go blank and stay that way unless i moved my mouse around.  Also on occasion when it happened I would get a staticy/popping sound from my speakers.  This will only happen when transfering data or downloading data to it.  Then I noticed it started to happen while writing to or from my Raid array.  I tried unplugging my new HDD and my Audigy and using only the Raid and on-board audio to lessen the load on my PSU but it still did it.  Odd thing is this didn't start to happen until after my new HDD was installed, BUT it happens when I unplug it too!  That's the confusing part.  Oh, also when the screen goes blank for say, more than 5-10 minutes the PC loses it's internet connectivity and my PC stops keeping time (while it's turned on).  I never heard of that before.  I know the CMOS keeps the internal clock ticking but *screen just went blank* if it was a dead battery it wouldn't run properly or POST; Correct?  Any ideas to this mystery?
