I have one computer, it has a 1.2 Ghz AMD Athlon CPU with 384MB NVRAM. 20GB HDD and 32MB Graphics.

I have another computer which is a Pentuim 3 800Mhz with 128MB SDRAM, 20GB HDD and 32MB Graphics

The second computer runs faster than the other one in terms of booting up and loading to the windows desktop. It also generally runs faster. The only difference is that the Pentuim System runs Windows ME and the AMD system runs Windows 98 SE. whats going on here. Surley my first system should be faster.

Defrag ME O/S

check what is running at start up ?

Start/run
\"msconfig\"
Startup
check which apps are running ?
with these inplace then check ?
One other thing is HD Type ?

is the pIII is on an Intelchipset?
because the intelchipset has an much better preformance than the viachipset !!!

ME is a faster booting system than w98, so no worries, try the same os on both system, then you ll see that the AMD is a lot faster....:-)

check to be sure the drives are the same speed.
If one is ata 66 or 33, that ide channel will slow down for
all devices (up to two).  I did that last week (wince).

Also, if an ATA 100 drive is using a 40 pin cable instead
of the 80 pin cables, channel may slow down too.

You might want to check your powersupply. It should ALWAYS eb a minimum of 300w, but 400w would be better. The more and better hardware installed the more power you will need....I just installed a 400w ps, and I could feel the difference instantly...look into it..:-)

I had a simiar problem with my AMD 1.4Ghz/ECS K7VZA setup so I decided to go into the BIOS setting and \"tweak\" it and after many failed attempts and many times I had to clear the CMOS, I found the ultimate settings and my PC booted up and generally just ran faster.

If you feel lucky, give that a shot!!!
