same problems as liptonite
« on: March 12, 2005, 02:20:18 PM »
I have quite the same problems as Liptonite had (see thread of march3 to march 10).
When in Xplorer (I now use mozilla)  my start page keeps going back to Daosearch.com. Next to that I get a lot of popups combined/accompanied with errror message (warning) that says-Error hooking"connect" data with a bunch of numbers and letters.
ZoneAlarm gives warnin gs that NtdDetect or even WMA wants to access internet as a server...??

I use ZoneAlarm, McAfee, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search but these does not seem to get it out of my system. Recently I have donwloaded Hijackthis (while reading on this Forum).

Can you please give me some advice?

This is the logfile of HijackThis:

Download and save to desktop the Standalone version of CWShredder.exe
Don't run this yet

Print the rest of this out or save too a notepad file on your desktop

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Find and delete these files or folders if found

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntddetect.exe <--file

C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{4F6283E3-520D-40B5-9C8E-EFA90CC5C896} <--this subfolder

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.theadultgate.com/find/

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://216.131.84.26/search.php?q=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://216.131.84.26/search.php?q=
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.daosearch.com

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://216.131.84.26/search.php?q=

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.theadultgate.com/find/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://216.131.84.26/search.php?q=

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Service Host] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services\{4F6283E3-520D-40B5-9C8E-EFA90CC5C896}\SVCHOST.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ntddetect] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntddetect.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lsass] C:\WINDOWS\System32\lsass.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ntddetect] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntddetect.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ntddetect] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntddetect.exe

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/06e53e7590d07c...ip/RdxIE601.cab

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Stay in safe mode
Open just CWShredder and click Only the FIX button, let it scan
When it's done

Restart back to Normal mode and post back a fresh Hijackthis log

Could you also let me know what else resides in this folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services <--this folder

Tnxs Questolo

this seems to be working: no more pop-ups, no more warning, no daosearch as startpage. Seems stabel now, but love to have some confirmation from you.

I have done all you asked, foud and deleted the files you mentioned.
In C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services I found this subfolder:
...\{7EF53503-E2D2-4D85-B34A-EBC4F32871A6}
with the following files in it:
SVCHOST.EXE .... 6-3-2005  18.35
SVCHOST.DLL .... 6-3-2005  18.35

Can you send this too the recycle bin
{7EF53503-E2D2-4D85-B34A-EBC4F32871A6}

From this folder C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services

SVCHOST.EXE and SVCHOST.DLL>>ONLY in the Services folder will probably cause reinfection if left where there at

The rest of your log looks good

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection
