Okay, maybe you need a little more info. I was freaking out ond wasn't very  detailed in my problem! Sorry!

Today insead of my usuall desktop of my son's smiling face I saw a black screen and what seemed to be an ad for anti-adware. Ironic?! Well I tried a few things and then found that I no longer had a desktop and no task bar. After a rebooting a few times I finally got back to where I was before - black screen and adware. But now I get a warning every few minutes that I am not proteced. Very annoying. Don't know what to do. My Dad talkied about dumping the whole system and starting over. Everything is backed up but I am afraid I may have this bugger on my backup too! I'm not a fan of starting over especially since I'm not really sure how to do it.

Can someone help me? Also is this the type of program that will steal stuff on my computer or is its main goal to be annoying?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Stacy

Could you Access your Add/Remove programs with all other windows closed and remove
New.net Application or New.net Domains
Restart your computer afterwards

If not found
Here are the complete removal instructions
Preferrably procedure 4 if not found in Add/Remove

You can save the Uninstaller to your desktop, close all other windows and run it
Restarting your computer afterwards
http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html

Post back a fresh Hijackthis log

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Download and save to desktop
HSFIX.zip
Unzip the contents of HSFix.zip and an HSFix directory will be created
We'll need this later

Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
When Installing it may download and start running a scan
Allow to update, but Don't run a scan yet

Please print this out or save to a Notepad file on the desktop

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Important>>Restart your computer into safe mode
you can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is booting up

Find and delete these files or folders if they exist, exact file names
C:\WINDOWS\System32\srvc32.exe <--file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe <--file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tibs3.exe

Look for these next ones too, delete files in bold if found
Let me know if you find any of them
•C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html '
-C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html
•C:\WINDOWS\SSICO.ICO
•C:\Documents and Settings\<current user>\Desktop\! Protect Your Data.url
•C:\Documents and Settings\<current user>\Favorites\! Smart Security.url
• C:\Documents and Settings\<current user>\Recent\! Smart Security.url
• C:\Documents and Settings\<current user>\Start Menu\! Secure Yourself.url

Note* <current user>= user name having a problem with the desktop issue

Go to Control Panel > Display.
Click on the "Desktop" tab then click the "Customize Desktop" button.
Click on the "Web" tab.
Uncheck everything

Stay in safe mode
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
http://www.makemesearch.com/?said=136

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Navigate to the HSFix directory and double-click on HSFix.bat.
* It will produce a log file, located here: C:\hslog.txt. <--we'll need this later

Open Ad-Aware
Perform a Full system scan
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

Restart back into Normal mode, log in with account having desktop issues
If still having problems
Again  check the Display settings
Go to Control Panel > Display.
Click on the "Desktop" tab then click the "Customize Desktop" button.
Click on the "Web" tab.
Uncheck everything

Log off and back on again

Post back with a fresh Hijackthis log afterwards

Could you also post this log back too
C:\hslog.txt <--this log

Looks good.
You should go back a Hide Hidden Files and folders

Also ensure you clean those temp folders
You can do a disk cleanup
START>>RUN>>type in cleanmgr
Hit OK
Make sure that Temp and Temp Internet files are checked

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

Stay safe  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
