Play Poker
« on: March 27, 2005, 06:28:50 AM »
Hi there

Any help gratefully appreciated.

I cannot free myself of internet betting pop-ups - basically it's a never ending succession of randomly appearing IE pop-ups encouraging me to play "Strip-Poker: The Hottest Click on the Net", and suchlike.

AVG lists the following as the problematic executables:

wowdbe.exe
sprmover.exe
winwiz32.exe
sethcd.exe
upncont32.exe

Attempts to heal or delete do not work.

A search does not find these files.

I've downloaded the latest version of HijackThis, the log is below.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Just noticed also that the pop-ups and virus warnings only seem to occur after I have kicked Windows Explorer off.

Let's try the following

Go and delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\hdmev.dll <-this file

Next:Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad) hit Enter
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as Fix.reg

Code: [Select]
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\clsid\{A78860C8-EE1A-46DF-A97F-E3E6D433E80B}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\browser helper objects\{A78860C8-EE1A-46DF-A97F-E3E6D433E80B}]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\adtomi]

Save this file on the desktop, well need this later, don't run it yet

===Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
It may check for updates when installing but don't run a scan yet

Access your Add\Remove programs and remove if found
Adtomi

Additionally,
If you see a Red yahoo stock task bar icon
RightClick on it
choose remove-while being online!
A web page from Adtomi should appear
"-uninstall was succesful!"

--Restart computer into safe mode

Find and delete these files if found
C:\WINDOWS\System32\6gz4vbo.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\0jlgbr.dll <-file

Stay in safe mode
Double click on Fix.reg and allow to merge to the registry

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank

If either of the next 2 are not preferred, fix them also
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.a1surf.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.tiny.com

Carry on
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A78860C8-EE1A-46DF-A97F-E3E6D433E80B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\0jlgbr.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [6gz4vbo.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\6gz4vbo.exe /k

O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [6gz4vbo.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\6gz4vbo.exe /k

O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.tiny.com

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Run Remv3.bat again in safe mode

Open Ad-Aware
Perform a Full system scan
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

Restart back to Normal mode

Post back a fresh Hijackthis log afterwards and the log from Remv3.bat

Looks good

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster 3.3 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
