===Download and save to Desktop the
FixIstbar.exe from Symantecs
Don't run it yet

===Download and save
Elite.Zip  UNZIP the contents too desktop
Make sure you unzip it so you have Elite.reg and LQfix.bat on the desktop or a folder
We'll need these later

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders, cookies, recylebin, etc...
Windows Cleanup
Install for now, don't run a scan yet

==Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

==Find and delete these files or folders if found
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hbkmgra.dll <-file
c:\windows\system32\ruxiwvtq.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\weaa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dsauth.exe
C:\WINDOWS\icncnf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sixtypopsix.exe

==Stay in safe mode
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000000-DD60-0064-6EC2-6E0100000000} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Jqhpa] C:\WINDOWS\System32\??oolsv.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

==Double click on Elite.reg and allow to merge to the registry
Double click on LQfix.bat>>A dos window will open and close quickly, this is normal

==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>All programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
Don't restart or log off yet

==Run the FxIstbar.exe by Symantec's
Let this finish scanning your drive, let me know if it finds anything or post the log it produces

Restart back too Normal mode

Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Perform a Full system scan
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

Just some cleanup
Navigate to your C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder

As you can see by Export.bat you have a file that you need to get rid of

08/18/2001 05:00 AM 51,200 spoolsv.exe <--good guy
03/28/2005 06:04 AM 417,792 ??oolsv.exe <--bad guy

The ? marks may not show when you look for it, but,
May be in disguise as the legitimate spoolsv.exe

You will have to right click on the file and left click properties
Your looking to delete the bad guy
Which will have a date of 03/28/2005
and a size of about 417kb
Don't delete the legit spoolsv.exe

Afterwards

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2079FCB9-4908-6C80-2104-6A03F5B2CEB1} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hbkmgra.dll (file missing)

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart your computer
Post back one more Hijackthis log and let me know how things are running

Why so far behind on Windows Updates???
This is important in keeping your system secure

My husband is freaked out that some of the updates will ruin the system.  He's heard bad things.  Does keeping it up to date far outway the risk of updating it?  You've helped me so much this far, I trust what you say...

If your version of Windows is legit, I definitely recommend installing
Windows Updates CRITICALS(High Priority) and Service packs
Not the recommended unless they are something preferred

But first
Let's make sure your clean, could you post back a fresh Hijackthis log

I would also recommend, before you post back a fresh log

You do the following
You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

As mentioned, if your version of Windows is legit
Much safer having Critical updates and Service packs installed
Then leaving yourself open for more infections, could be worse next time

Here's what I usually do

Back up anything important, files or documents,  just in case

Beforehand print this information from This link
Not trying to scare you, but best to know in case you do run into problems
I haven't experienced any yet
Except a friend of mine needed a program update after SP2 was installed

Also Read this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx

Before installing Service pack2 I usually recommend running an Online virus scan
at either
Housecall's or Panda's
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
This is just a double check to ensure you don't have no Malware hiding on your computer
Even if you have Anti-Virus software, as mentioned, it's a double check

Make sure you check for updates with Ad-Aware and run a scan

Restart the computer
Empty those temp folders>>Run Windows CleanUp!

Restart into safe mode and
Defragment your Hard Drive
START>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>Disk Defragmenter

Restart back to Normal mode

Create a fresh restore point
START>>All programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore
Create a New Restore Point>>Name it and click Create

Make sure all other users are logged off the computer

Install SP2>>Restart your computer when prompted, revisit Windows updates and ensure you have all latest critical updates
Give SP2 time to install, even if it appears to freeze at times
On a cable modem, this may take 30 minutes or longer to install, be patient

Restart your computer when prompted and revisit Windows updates until you have all latest critical updates installed

When your finally satisfied that you have all updates, excluding recommended updates
Make sure that you have restarted the computer one final time
Then run Windows CleanUp! one more time
Log off and back on again
This will also clean the Prefetch folder>>clears old files used previously
After running Windows CleanUp! you may notice Windows boots up a little slower
The speed increases on next bootup
This is because the Prefetch folder is also cleared

I hope the above helps, there are never no guarantees, but I'm sure you will have an easy install of SP2 if you follow the steps above

My husband updated everything last night.  Installed Service Pack, etc.  I'm going to have him go over your last post. I guess it was just the service pack he was nervous about.  Has something to do with the RAW photo files from his camera.  But we're all up to date now!  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Once again, much much thanks for all your help.
