I've seen others helped for this same problem - I think I can handle the process but would like some help identifying the files to be deleted. Thank you gretly for any help you can offer. Here's my HijackThis log:

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, after the single post beep, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

If you didn't pay for Spykiller, uninstall it from the Add/Remove programs
It's bogus

After removed, stay in safe mode

Find and delete these files or folders if found

Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
Don't restart the computer or log off yet

==Open Ad-Aware>>Perform a Full system scan
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer back to Normal mode

Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Reset home page

Restart back to Normal mode

Do the following
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Open Display Properties.
3. Click the Desktop tab.
4. Click the Customize Desktop button.
5. Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
6. Make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked.
OK your way out
Log off your user account and log back on again if anything unchecked

Post back a fresh Hijackthis log afterwards

Followed your instructions to the letter - they were quite impressive. Things are looking up. With regard to your question about the contents of C:\WINDOWS\system32\Services, there is one folder remaining - {93907E02-B0F1-4899-9359-BC68D5511F68}
Inside this folder are 3 files as follows - SVCHOST32.DLL, SVCHOST.DLL, and SVCHOST.EXE -

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Before restarting your computer
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

You should set up protection against future attacks

As mentioned, I never find the updater that great with Sun Java
After installation you may want to enter your Control Panel and open the Java Icon

OK - I've completed all the steps you recommended, except for updating my version of Java. When I tried to donate through the link in your signature, PayPal told me it called for an outdated version - I've never used PayPal before, so I signed up and created an account, but every time I click on your link it gives me an error message .
