Internet Links don't open
« on: April 12, 2005, 02:52:54 PM »
Hi all..

well I eventually got myself a new computer (Windows XP) and managed to get Broadband up and working.  My only problem is when I click on any kind of link on a webpage, the window just locks up and freezes and the other window isnt opened.  Also my dad uses Email Removed to enter competitions on various sites, when he clicks those links nothing ever happens and I end up having to End Task the page.

Anyone got any ideas as this is a brand new computer and it's already annoying me!! http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

Hey again, thanks for the reply http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Everything you mentioned is exactly as you said apart from one slight difference in the "Under Application used to perform action", which instead reads:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

any ideas?  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Try this

Go to START>>RUN>>type in

REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL

Notice the space after 32
Don't hit OK yet

Close your browser window then hit OK

Afterwards restart your computer

Keep your browser closed and go to your control panel
Open Internet options

Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Also put a check in "Internet explorer should check to see if it's default browser"
Apply and OK out of there

Now you can open a browser and try again
Try Hotmail also

Still no joy.. http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

Having one page surfing the net is fine, there are no pauses whatsoever, its just when I click on a link which needs to open up a new window or I right-click on any kind of link and choose to Open in New Window that it doesn't work.

I'll give you an example..  I go to sylvesterstallone.com and when I go to click on "Enter", a box is meant to appear with different kinds of menus, but now I click on it, the page freezes for a few mins then it unfreezes like I didn't click anything at all.

Then, instead of saying "Done" in the bottom left hand corner it has a small exclamation mark with info that reads:

Line: 13
Char: 4
Error: No such interface supported
Code:0
URL: http://www.sylvesterstallone.com/IndexTop.html

I created restore disks when I first setup the computer, shall I try reverting the computer back to the original state with those?

Thanks in advance http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

What happens if you enter your Internet options in Internet Explorer
Under the advanced tab you Restore Defaults

Close Internet Explorer and reopen it
Any luck

Still no luck
Check out this link from Micosoft
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;Q281679

then, if that doesn't work, I would suggest this one

Restoring the defaults didn't fix things.

I tried the Windows File Protection and I still haven't had any joy with it, I'll try reinstalling Internet Explorer 6 using the steps on one of your links

Still haven't had any luck with the links you provided me.  I did find something on the Microsoft website which relates to the problems I'm having.

It said to resolve the problem I should type regsvr32 urlmon.dll into the dialog box and click ok when it said it succeeded.  It had a lsit of other dll files to do that with incase that didn't work.  The only problem is that I tried it with "regsvr32 Msjava.dll"  but I tried it and it came up with:

LoadLibrary("Msjava.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found.

Any idea whether that's the problem or does it seem like a lost cause?

Thanks http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
