Not sure what error your getting on startup

But try the following
Please update your version of Hijackthis
You can redownload it from my signature below, save it to your
C:\Program Files\HJT folder, allow to overwrite the old version

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe
O2 - BHO: myBar BHO - {0494D0D1-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL (file missing)

O3 - Toolbar: My &Search Bar - {0494D0D9-F8E0-41ad-92A3-14154ECE70AC} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\myBar\1.bin\MYBAR.DLL (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Blubster] C:\Program Files\Blubster\Blubster.exe SILENT
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Try and restart back to Normal mode and post a new log

Your log looks good
When did this all start happening, right after you ran the scan with Pest Patrol???

Edit>>Can you give me any clue as to the name of the filename error on startup

Is there any way of running a Hijackthis scan in Normal mode and post it in safe mode?

For troubleshooting purposes
Can you go to START>>RUN>>Type in msconfig

Under the STARTUP tab
Disable all
Apply it and close out and restart back to Normal mode

If you get an error message on startup
Give me a clue of the filename

The error messages are as near as I can make them in the attached Word Document. There appears to be about three or four files so affected.

I can now open the Start menu, but them the machine hangs and will not load any programs. I have to power down to restart.

The attachment didn't go through
Can you try it again

Also
Download RKFiles.zip  and UNZIP it to its own permanent folder.

In Safe mode

Open the folder you unzipped rkfiles too
Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer It will take a bit to run, so give it time
When it's done it will produce a log, by default the log is saved too
C:\log.txt

Post that log back here

Rkfiles is clean, You could try one more scan to help ensure the problems aren't viral related

Download this virus checker from eScan
Mwav.exe
There's nothing to install, save it and then double click to run
It will self extract

In Mwav
Select all local drives, scan all files, press 'SCAN' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane.
Give this scan time to finish, it's very thorough
In the Virus Log Information Pane
Left click and Highlight all the info in the Lower pane---  Use "CTRL and the  C" keys  on your Keyboard to copy all found in the lower pane  and paste it back here in your reply

****If prompted that a Virus was found and you need to purchase the product  to remove the malware, just close out the prompt and let it continue scanning
We just want to see where the bad guys are

Not too much wrong in there
But try the following
==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders, cookies, recylebin, etc..
Windows Cleanup
Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done

Try restarting back to Normal mode, any luck?
