Can you do the following

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.zpecialoffer.com/indexie.html

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.zpecialoffer.com/indexie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.zpecialoffer.com/results.asp?keyword=%s

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6642E6E9-0376-74A8-7AE3-7695CBD08E9E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qrhjxq.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Cpue] C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\Application Data\cruu.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Cjarv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\j?vaw.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Apwheel] C:\WINDOWS\system32\8287.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart your computer

Back in Windows
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Find and delete these files if found
C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\Application Data\cruu.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qrhjxq.dll <-file

Could you also
Go to this site please
Give this site time to load
Jotti's Online Malware scan

Use the browse button and navigate to this file on your hard disk
C:\WINDOWS\system32\8287.exe<--this file

Right click on the file and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please, just the scanner results

Could you also
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy and paste the contents of the CODE box to notepad
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS

Name the file as Export.bat
Save it on the desktop

Code: [Select]
dir C:\WINDOWS\system32\j?vaw.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Double click on Export.bat
A text file will open, can you copy and paste that back here
If for some reason the window closes, the same info should be in files.txt
that should be on the desktop

Also post a fresh Hijackthis log too

With windows set to show hidden files and folders
Navigate to your C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder
Open the folder and look for this bad guy
C:\WINDOWS\system32\j?vaw.exe

The ? mark will not show but it may be in disguise as a legit file by the name of javaw.exe
You don't appear to have Sun Java installed but look for that file name
Right click on javaw.exe and left click properties
If the approximate size is about 415kb and a date of
08/02/2005

Send it to the recycle bin

Then come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log and double click on Export.bat again and post the findings

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Right click on javaw.exe and left click properties
If the approximate size is about 415kb and a date of
08/02/2005

Send it to the recycle bin

Then come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log and double click on Export.bat again and post the findings

hi, have found javaw.exe in system32 ,
type of file ,application, size 408kb, created on 20/2/05, but modified on 8/2/05 ,dont understand how that can be. But when tried to send to recycle bin, says cannot delete, access is denied, make sure disk is not full or write protected and is not currently in use .

Can you Restart into safe mode and delete it?
How to Start in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, after the single post beep, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

Go ahead and rehide hidden files and folders

If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster 3.3 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection
IE-Spyad is compatible with XP SP2 also

Can you do me a favor
I'm getting mixed reactions from one entry in your hijackthis log
Just curious what it's related too
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ShowWnd] ShowWnd.exe

Can you look for that file on your hard drive
Do a search for it
If you find it can you right click on and left click properties
Version tab if one and let me know what it's related too

Could you also go to this site please
Give this site time to load
Jotti's Online Malware scan

Use the browse button and navigate to the file on your hard disk

Right click on the file and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please, just the scanner results

Jacko, I'm not finding much bad about that file, but may be a leftover of an unneeded on the system

You can have hijackthis fix this entry with all other windows closed
and then restart your computer
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ShowWnd] ShowWnd.exe

Don't delete the backups that Hijackthis made until your happy with the way everything is running

Back in Windows
Look for showwnd.exe on your computer
Can you right click on it, left click properties
If version tab
Open it and let me know what you can find out about it
Date created and who it's related to
May be to a compaq computer leftover
