Help me out- IPassist.biz? O_o; Log included.
« on: May 01, 2005, 02:48:15 PM »
So here I am trying to download things and surf on my precious computer. Alluvasudden, I open a firefox window to find random words have all become linked to the same site- ipassist.biz. Also, I keep receiving lots of annoying popups from the same place. I ran hijackthis on it to see what was up and well, it gave me all this stuff. O_o I have no idea what to do with it, I just want this stuff off my PC ;-; Help? Log is below.

PS: I just wanted you all to know that this forum has helped me several times before in removing spyware, and that I'm very grateful for what you do for people. It's nice that you take time out of your day to help fix peoples problems. Keep up the great work!

Anyway, my log.

Access your Add/Remove Programs via your Control panel and remove

P2P Networking2 <-a useless Kazaa addon that can cause system slowdowns
Security iGuard <-this is bogus and sometimes unintentionally installed
Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
Viewpoint Media Player
WebSearch Toolbar (SeekerBar)
Windows SA

Don't restart the computer until all the above are removed
And then restart the computer

Back in Windows delete these folders
C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking <-this folder
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\Toolbar
C:\Program Files\Windows SA
C:\Program Files\Security iGuard

Then download and save to desktop Aimfix by Jay loden
Run the tool
Follow the prompts and restart your computer afterwards

Come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log, we still have some work to do

This entry in your Add/Remove programs
Bridge
Did you install this? I'm just checking

k, I did everything you wanted me to do, except one little problem. I went to delete the toolbar folder, and it said the programs in the folder (TSPB or something) was running. So I go to end the process, and everytime I end it, it starts itself back up! Crafty little bugger.

Anyway, new hijack log. BTW, the Bridge thing wasn't installed by me. I dunno where it came from but it sure as hell won't go away.

Sorry for the delay
Can you do the following please
Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- WebSeach Toolbar support NT service

Double click on it--- STOP the service--If running
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled

Then try removing WebSearch in Add/Remove programs again

Restart your computer afterwards

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders,cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup
Give the link time to load or try it twice, it may be busy
Install for now, don't run a scan yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido Trojan Scanner

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We'll fix that later
From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido
We'll need it later

Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, after the single post beep, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

If you couldn't remove WebSearch Toolbar in Normal mode
Do this
Go back into Services.msc and stop and disable the service again
========================================
Open a Command Prompt
Start>>Run>>type in cmd
Hit OK
At the prompt type
regsvr32 /u /s "C:\Program Files\Toolbar\toolbar.dll"
Hit ENTER
Notice the spaces

Next Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open "Delete an NT Service"
Copy and paste or type the bold into the blank box and hit OK
TBPSSvc
=============================================

Find and delete these files or folders if found
c:\r.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WLDR.DLL <-file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\srvc32.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\spoolsrv32.exe <-file, notice the spelling

C:\Program Files\Toolbar <-folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services <-folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nsvsvc <-folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\picsvr <-folder
C:\Program Files\Holzj <-folder
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker <-folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\tsa <-folder

==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
DECLINE to Log off when scan is done

==Open Ewido trojan scanner
Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take a while, so give it time to run
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
Save the report

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
Not all may exist in safe mode, but take a look for all of them

k, another issue. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Remember back at the beginning, when I mentioned that certain words on my pages were being linked back to the ipassist.biz? Well, it turns out that the word "Download" is one of those. Therefore I can't download the trojan scanner since the button leading to the file has the word "download" in it. --; Every time I try it just leads me to ipassist.biz. If you could send me a direct link to the .exe, that'd be something I could use. >_<; Sorry...
