Windows 98SE Network weirdness!!
« on: May 07, 2005, 07:07:22 PM »
Hi,

I recently had a problem with my router and PC running Windows 98SE.

I uninstalled the network card (a D-Link DFE-530TX), removed the drivers and tried reinstalling it, to see if this would solve the problem.

Since this is a plug-and-play adaptor, I simply rebooted the PC with the card re-installed (I physically unplugged the card after removing drivers).

NOW, when I go to reinstall the card, the only protocol available to me is 'PPPOE' (not TCP/IP). However, if I click on 'Have Disk'and point to the 'C:\Windows\INF' folder, I do get to see the Microsoft/IBM/Banyan/Novell protocols and can select TCP/IP from there.

The problem is, I cannot add any Clients or Services. In Network Configuration, if I press the 'Add' button to get the 'Select Network Component Type', I see Client/Adaptor/Protocol/Service' as usual, but the when selecting Client or Service then pressing the 'Add' button (which isn't grayed out) I get no window popping up with the options.

Does anyone have any idea why this is?

I sure would appreciate any help with this one....

I have even tried reinstalling Windows 98SE over the top, but I still have the same problem.

Other weird things....

In Network Settings, I ONLY have the Configuration tab! I don't see 'Identification' etc...

When I enter or leave the Network Settings, I get the message "Your network is not complete. Do you want to continue?"
