Removing Adware Threats
« on: May 10, 2005, 11:13:58 AM »
Hello all,

As I have stated I am new to this forum.  I've read a couple of threads that pertain to my problem but am unsure of how to proceed.  Should I follow the advice given in those threads or is every instance unique?

For the record Norton is blocking thnall1ac.exe, aurareco.exe, and gxjzpyvmcsc.exe.

Here is my Hijackthis file:

Decided to run SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware.  This seems to have made the problem worse.  I guess I got a little impatient.

Removing Adware Threats
No, you did fine if you ran the latest versions of Ad-Aware and Spybot

I need you to download a few more tools please
==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders, cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup
Give the link time to load or try it twice, it may be busy
Install for now, don't run a scan yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido Trojan Scanner

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We'll fix that later
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido

Right click on your desktop>>Select NEW>>Folder
A new folder will be placed on your desktop, name it ETRemover
Download and UNZIP to that folder
ETRemover 1.2.3
We'll need this later

Download and UNZIP to desktop NailRemove.zip
So you now have NailRemove.bat on the desktop
[attachment=215:attachment]

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, after the single post beep, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- System Startup Service

Double click on it--- STOP the service--If running
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled

Double click on NailRemove.bat
A dos window will open and close quickly, this is normal

Using Windows Explorer. Find and delete these files or folders if found and if you can delete them, carry on if you can't delete them
With exact file names
FILES
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr51.dll
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\GJGMQEM.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DrPMon.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\psoft1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\exp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wintask.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Eqkfpf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ctsofm.exe
C:\windows\system32\elitehki32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\deliui.exe

FOLDERS
C:\Program Files\VBouncer <-this folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wmydx
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ektbx
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ooikout

Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open "Delete an NT Service"
In the new box that opens, copy and paste the bold line below to the open field and hit OK
SvcProc

==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
Decline to Log off

==Open Ewido trojan scanner
Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take a while, so give it time to run
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
Save the report

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries if found

Restart back to Normal mode

Post back a fresh Hijackthis log
Also post the Report from Ewidos
Could you then run FindIt's.bat again and post a fresh log from the scan

Removing Adware Threats
Stilll some work to do

Can you do the following please

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rnljvu] c:\windows\system32\txjwygi.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Next: Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open "Delete File on Reboot"
In the File name field
Copy and paste the bold below into the Open field

c:\windows\system32\txjwygi.exe

Then click OPEN
Reboot the computer
Back in windows

Post back a fresh hijackthis log

Could you also
Download Find_It's.zip
UNZIP the contents
Open the FindIt's folder and double click on the FindIt's.bat

Removing Adware Threats
OK, hijackthis was not able to delete "F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe".  Also, I could not find "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rnljvu] c:\windows\system32\txjwygi.exe" in the list.  I was able to delete the file after reboot, though.  Anyway, here is the hijackthis log:

Removing Adware Threats
Not sure if I am aload to mention anything but, I like to give some pointers.

First off, your fresh Hijackthis log looks like it did delete the
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe etc...

However rember this, what guestolo was tring to say is, the file that he mentioned that needs to be deleted upon reboot, means that this file will not delete untill you reboot the computer. So it is very important that you reboot the computer.

Second. While posting in here and while this virus is still running you can get infected with more virus especially if it is a backdoor virus. So a little trick that I figured out is if the virus is a startup file, you can disable it in msconfig. HOWEVER, make sure that it is enabled when you run Hijackthis. The reason why is because Hijackthis want see it. Or at least this is what happened to me. I ran a Hijackthis log, and I didn't see the startup file in the log, but when I enabled the file again and rebooted it popped up again.

Anyways if your not sure which one is the virus, and/or you don't know how to use msconfig then it is not recomended to play with the msconfig. You could accidently disable your anti virus program Though it is a good tool to learn how to use. Also if you do know what your doing with msconfig, and the virsus is blocking you from running msconfig, then try rebooting in safe mode and then disable the virus in msconfig and then reboot.

Removing Adware Threats
Let's try some more cleaning
Download and UNZIP to desktop Clear.zip so you now have clear.reg on the desktop
We'll need this later

==Download the Pocket Killbox
UNZIP it to a folder of your choice

==Download RKFiles.zip from the link
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
UNZIP the contents to it's own folder

Please save these instructions too a Notepad file on your desktop and then Disconnect from the Internet>>Close all browser windows, including this one

==Run Pocket KillBox>>Now killbox and this notepad file is open
Click on Tools>>Delete Temp files

In the Full Path of File to Delete box, copy and paste the entire line directly below in bold, do not type this in

C:\WINDOWS\System32\JCTYIDH.EXE

Select the radio button to
 Delete on Reboot
Click The Red circle and a white X
When prompted to Delete on Reboot, click YES
If prompted to Reboot Now, Click NO

Continue to copy and paste the next paths to the files below into killbox
Selecting Delete on Reboot afterwards

C:\WINDOWS\GXJZPY~1.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\NAIL.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\SVCPROC.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRPMON.DLL
c:\windows\system32\jctyidh.exe

When you've entered the last path to the file
Allow the computer to Reboot
or Restart the computer anyways
Please try and restart into SAFE MODE by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting

Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- System Startup Service

Double click on it--- STOP the service--If running
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled

Double click on NailRemove.bat
A dos window will open and close quickly, this is normal

Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools Section>>Open "Delete an NT Service"
Copy and paste or type the bold entry below into the open box and then Hit OK
SvcProc

In safe mode
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jhycrl] c:\windows\system32\jctyidh.exe
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Double click on Clear.reg and allow to merge to the registry

Open the folder you unzipped rkfiles.zip too
Double click to run Rkfiles.bat
Wait for the scan to finish, give this time
When it's done a log will be produced, save this log
By default, it is saved to C:\Log.txt

Restart back to Normal mode
Do another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log
Also post the log from Rkfiles.bat>>C:\Log.txt

AFTER you have posted the above logs, can you run FindIt's.bat again and post that log too

Could you also do the following
Can you go to this link
Give this site time to load
Jotti's Online Malware scan

Use the browse button and navigate to these  files in on your hard drive
C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSCLOC~1.DLL <-this file, I'm not sure of the exact name, but it will start with MSCLOC
Right click on the  file individually  and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please, just the scanner results
Do the same for this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\MSPLOC~1.DLL <-file

I hope it doesn't seem like I'm not following directions but when I try to delete the NT service from hijackthis I get the message, "Service 'SvcProc' was not found in the registry make sure you entered the short name of the service., vbExclamation".  Also after I do the hijackthis scan, the 04 and 023 lines are not in the list.

I could not find either file, MSCLOC~1.DLL or MSPLOC~1.DLL, on my computer.  I did a search for the fist part of each filename but could not find anything.

Removing Adware Threats
« Reply #11 on: May 13, 2005, 02:33:25 PM »
I can see the names of those files now, known bad guys

Can you do the following please

Please save these instructions too a Notepad file on your desktop and then Disconnect from the Internet>>Close all browser windows, including this one

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ucpupt] c:\windows\system32\fktqfmd.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

==Run Pocket KillBox>>Now killbox and this notepad file is open
Click on Tools>>Delete Temp files

In the Full Path of File to Delete box, copy and paste the entire line directly below in bold, do not type this in

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jrlipaf.exe

Select the radio button to
 Delete on Reboot
Click The Red circle and a white X
When prompted to Delete on Reboot, click YES
If prompted to Reboot Now, Click NO

Continue to copy and paste the next paths to the files below into killbox
Selecting Delete on Reboot afterwards

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msclock32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msplock32.dll
c:\windows\system32\fktqfmd.exe

When you've entered the last path to the file
Allow the computer to Reboot
or Restart the computer anyways

Back in Windows run another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log
Also run RKfiles.bat again and post a new log it produces

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Removing Adware Threats
« Reply #13 on: May 16, 2005, 09:38:58 PM »
You were almost clean, but those 3 days found some new guys in your logs

Can I have you do the following please

Check for updates with Ewido
Close it out after it's updated

Please download Nailfix from here:
This is a new fix, please ensure you have this version
Choose Save to disk, rather than open
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow...050515010747824
UNZIP  it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Can you save these instructions too a Notepad file please

Disconnect from the Internet

Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- System Startup Service

Double click on it--- STOP the service--If running
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled

==Run Pocket KillBox>>Now killbox and this notepad file is open
Click on Tools>>Delete Temp files

In the Full Path of File to Delete box, copy and paste the entire line directly below in bold, do not type this in

C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Select the radio button to
 Delete on Reboot
Click The Red circle and a white X
When prompted to Delete on Reboot, click YES
If prompted to Reboot Now, Click NO

Continue to copy and paste the next paths to the files below into killbox
Selecting Delete on Reboot afterwards

C:\WINDOWS\system32\crraua.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msclock32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\gxjzpyvmcsc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

When you've entered the last path to the file
Allow the computer to Reboot
or Restart the computer anyways
Please try and restart into SAFE MODE by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting

Double-click on Nailfix.cmd.  Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan.  Save the logfile from the scan.

Run Rkfiles.bat again in safe mode, save the log

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iodvth] c:\windows\system32\crraua.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Back in Windows, can you supply these logs

A fresh log from Hijackthis
The log from RKFiles.bat
The report from Ewidos

AFTER posting those logs
Can we also do a double check
Run FindIt's.bat again and post the log

Do what you can from the above and then try and post back all required logs

Removing Adware Threats
« Reply #15 on: May 17, 2005, 07:29:59 PM »
That file won't disappear

Can you do the following

Can you go to Jotti's Online malware scan and scan the file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msclock32.dll

I'm quite sure it's a bad guy, just want to see what it's related too exactly
Post the scanner results back here

If the file is found bad, can you boot into safe mode
Manually navigate to this file and delete it?
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msclock32.dll <-this file

If you can
Then run Windows CleanUp! again in safe mode
Decline to log off when it's done
Instead Restart the computer

Come back here and post one more Hijackthis log and then can you run FindIt's.bat and post a fresh log from it
FindIt's is different than Rkfiles remember

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Removing Adware Threats
« Reply #17 on: May 19, 2005, 05:51:24 PM »
Ensure you have no browser windows open, physically disconnect from the Internet

Restart back into safe mode

Open Killbox
Copy and paste this entry into the file name field

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msclock32.dll

Then click the Red Circle with the White X

If the file won't delete

Can you ensure that entry is pasted to the file name field in Killbox

Then click the "Replace on Reboot"
Additionally tick the radio button to "Use Dummy"

Then click the Red Circle with the white X

Allow the computer to reboot back to Normal mode

Back in Windows, post one last hijackthis log and run FindIt's.bat again and post the log
Ensure your posting a new log and not an old saved one

I may not see your response until after the weekend, but I'll try and follow up as soon as I can

Removing Adware Threats
« Reply #19 on: May 23, 2005, 04:30:38 PM »
Sorry for the delay, was away for awhile

Can you do the following please

Download:  Registry Search Tool from this link
http://billsway.com/vbspage/

Unzip and double-click "RegSrch.vbs"
Note: if your Antivirus or another program prompts about running a ".vbs" file, allow the script to run

In the open field copy and paste the below in bold then hit OK

msclock32.dll

Wait for the results and post them back here
