xp doesn't recognize 2nd hard drive

hello,

I installed a second hard drive ( quantum lct15  20gb ) in a presario 5wv277.

My problem is that the bios recognize it but it does'nt appear in xp. I formatted it with partition magic 8 in ntfs and partition magic recognize it but not xp.

I tried different configuration ( slave, master, primary ide, secondary ide) but still xp doesn't see it.

The presario have nothing in the way of options in the bios, it's pretty basic so i can't do much there but the bios see it fine so i don't think the bios is at fault here.

It doesn't appear either in disk management.

Any help would be appreciated.

ATTENTION: To make XP see your disk you must assign a DRIVE letter to the disk and make it active! This is a VERY simple procedure.
Start -> Run -> diskmgmt.msc
1) Right Click on the hard disk XP is NOT seeing.
2) Click 'Mark Partition as Active'
3) Right Click on that same disk again
4) Click 'Change Drive Letters and Paths'
5) Click the 'Add' button
6) Assign a drive letter by the dropdown box.

My disk shows as active and healthy, but with no drive letter. Also, my only options are to create a dynamic drive or delete the partition.

Ideas? (Much sesitive information on drive, reformatting not an option)

I'm having the same problem, and I'm going to buy a 3.5" HDD External USB Case and see if I can retrieve the data that way.

Thank you Seven. Things were not exactly as you stated (all systems vary a bit) but it solved my problem. It was extremely easy too.
