Author Topic: Help removing Nail.exe and others (Read 2795 times)

I would be so very grateful if someone could help me with this problem.

A month or so ago I noticed that my computer was running much slower than usual (it takes about 10 minutes for outlook to open). I ran a scan and discovered that somehow tons of adware had been installed, most notably Transponder, Nail.exe and Aurora.

I downloaded Ad-Adware and Microsoft Antispyware, and ran them both in addition to NoAdware, a program I already had. Between those three and Norton Antivirus, I managed to remove most of the files. The only one that remained was Nail.exe at the time, which despite many different avenues, I've never been able to remove.

I noticed yesterday that the computer was slowing down again, and ran a scan of each noadware, but none detected anything except Nail. So I downloaded ANOTHER program, called Spyware Doctor. It detected something like 500 files! Needless to say that was rather upsetting. However in order to delete them you have to purchase the program, and I can't really afford that at this time.

Obviously the biggest adware problem I have is the Transponder Program, but there are several others as well that I recognized, such as "Wild Tangent", "BearShare" and a few others.

I have a copy of HijackThis but am unsure which items to tick off and how to delete these nuisances for good. Can someone please help?

Can you do the following please

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders,cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup
Give the link time to load or try it twice, it may be busy
Install for now, don't run a scan yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido Trojan Scanner

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We'll fix that later
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido

==Please download Nailfix from here:

Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, after the single post beep, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

Once in Safe mode
Double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Find and delete this file if found
c:\windows\system32\kcihhcr.exe <-file

==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
Decline to Log off

Instead
==Open Ewido trojan scanner
Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take a while, so give it time to run
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
Save the report

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart back to Normal mode
If prompted by any of your Security programs about a change, Allow them so they won't interfere with any fixes we are trying

Run another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log

Could you also
Download Find_It's.zip
UNZIP the contents
Open the FindIt's folder and double click on the FindIt's.bat
Wait for the log and post it back here

I had a minor problem with the first link you asked me to download. I couldn't get the link to work, even though I tried several times (it said the link didn't exist). I followed the instructions down to the letter after that, however.

Consumer section
look for a link to the uninstaller.
Only way I found to completely remove the crap THEY put on there to begin with. Was a big pain. I had run HijackThis!, MS-AS, AAW, SpyBot, Ewido, TDS-3, SpySweeper, and SpySubtract.
It's a new form and they even released a damned Press Release about it like it was some great product. I hate them so much.

Don't use the uninstaller, your just about clean

Here's an alternate link to Windows CleanUp!

After install
Don't run a scan yet

If you don't plan on keeping Spyware Doctor go ahead and uninstall it
Also, not sure if you paid for NoAdware, but I've never used it and probably never will
I will supply you with an alternate SpywareRemover also

Hold onto Ad-Aware SE>>It's recommended
and Microsoft Anti-Spyware

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Open Windows CleanUp! and click on the cleanup button
Let it finish scanning
After it's done, just don't Logoff, but instead Restart the computer

Back in Windows, remember to allow any changes if prompted by your Spyware tools

Run another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log

I need you to disable Microsoft's anti-spyware realtime protection
Do the same with No-Adware's protection

Then have Hijackthis fix check these entries with ALL other windows closed
