I can't remove about:blank as my home page in internet explorer.  It was placed there somehow.  Also, I have an icon on my desktop that won't allow me to delete it  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> - it states I have a bug, and need to download their software to get rid of it.  Sure, they put it there in the first place, right?!
Thanks for the help.

this is a malware problem. Download and run scans from these programs:

-AdAware SE
-Spybot Search and Destroy

search those up on google, and run BOTH, not just one..never enough. That should probably solve your problem.

http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'<_<\' /> Ran both of these after getting updates.  Also ran Norton Antivirus and System Checkup - after loading its updates.  Still can't get rid of the popup or change back to my home page.  Any other thoughts?  Thanks.

Use FireFox! http://mozilla.org

Besides running more spyware programs, I don't have much more advice than getting a much safer browser (firefox, opera)

First try running spyware and antivirus from safe mode. Then check out hijackthis.exe.

Download and run CWShredder. There is also a program that stops the CWShredderKiller if it happens to be on your machine.

http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' /> use Trend Micro Anti-Spyware 3,0
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/product.asp?productid=62
It removed my friend's about:blank problem fast!
It has a full trial version good for 30 days.
