Hi Broken Angel
This is what I want you to do  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Post back a fresh Hijackthis log
But this time include the WHOLE log
Which includes Hijackthis version and Operating system

Also, could you do this too
Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Uninstall Manager
Click the SAVE LIST button
Save this list to your desktop or a folder
Open it and copy and paste the contents back here
« Last Edit: June 18, 2005, 06:19:39 PM by guestolo »

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Can I have you repost that uninstall list from Hijackthis please
You cut off the top of the list

Mozilla Firefox (1.0.2)
I need to see the list above that entry

Could you also run another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log
Remember to Post the WHOLE log
The best way to do this is
When the log opens
Select EDIT>>SELECT ALL
Right click and choose Copy

Then paste it back here

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Let's get you some tools to help clean your computer

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders, cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup
Give the link time to load or try it twice, it may be busy
Alternate Download link
We'll need this later

==Download and then Install
Ewido Trojan Scanner

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We'll fix that later
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later

Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Don't run a scan yet

==Download and UNZIP to a folder or desktop
Smitfraud.zip
So you now have Smitfraud.reg extracted
We'll need this later

Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop

Access your add/remove programs and remove if found
SpySheriff <- you look like you removed this already, but check again
SEP
Viewpoint Media Player

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Once in safe mode
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Find and delete these files if found
C:\Windows\Desktop.html <-file
C:\winstall.exe <-file
and these folders
C:\Program Files\SpySheriff <-folder
C:\Program Files\SEP <-folder
C:\Program Files\Toolbar <-folder
C:\Program Files\Daily Weather Forecast <-folder

==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
DECLINE to Log off at this time

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
Save the report

Double click on Smitfraud.reg and Allow to add or Merge to the registry

Restart back to Normal mode

Back in Windows
Run another scan with Hijackthis and post back here a fresh log
Can you also include the Report from Ewidos

Could you also
Can you go to this link
Give this site time to load
Jotti's Online Malware scan

Use the browse button and navigate to this file on your hard drive
C:\windows\system32\rM.exe <-this file
Right click on it  and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please, just the scanner results which includes name of file

Do the same for this file
c:\windows\system32\fLRW.exe

Can you please do the following

Download and UNZIP to desktop Find.zip
So you now have Find.bat and Find1.bat extracted

Double click on Find.bat and a text file will open
Copy and paste back here the WHOLE contents of that text file

Do the same with Find1.bat

Could you also post the report I asked you too save from Ewido's

I don't have the other log becuase I didn't get back into safe mod after the first restart, I must not have done the right thing. I'll do it later unless there is a big reason to do it now.

Can you do the following please

Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the QUOTE box to notepad, not including the word "quote"
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop

Quote
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager]"ThemeActive"="1"
"DllName"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\
  74,00,25,00,5c,00,72,00,65,00,73,00,6f,00,75,00,72,00,63,00,65,00,73,00,5c,\

  00,00,00
"ColorName"="NormalColor"

Double click on fix.reg and allow to add or Merge to the registry
Restart your computer

Download and Save to desktop Luna.zip
UNZIP the contents >>>luna.msstyles
To
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna <-this folder

You must unzip only to that folder
Double click on luna.msstyles in the luna folder
It should open your Display options>>Appearance tab
Let me know if you can change your appearance to XP style now

Can you post one more hijackthis log
We should do some follow up

Also, you didn't do this, if the files are in the same location and haven't been cleaned from our previous methods
Can you do these instructions
Go to this link
Give this site time to load
Jotti's Online Malware scan

Use the browse button and navigate to this file on your hard drive
C:\windows\system32\rM.exe <-this file
Right click on it  and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please, just the scanner results which includes name of file

Do the same for this file
c:\windows\system32\fLRW.exe

Find and delete these 2 files
C:\windows\system32\rM.exe <-this file
c:\windows\system32\fLRW.exe <-this file

If everything is running better
Go back and hide Hidden Files and folders

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"

IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply click the "enable all protection"
IE-Spyad is compatible with SP2 as well

NOTE:
Your version of Firefox is a Little out of date
You can try using the updater
Found in Firefox>>TOOLS>>OPTIONS>>ADVANCED
Under Software Update>>Click CHECK NOW
If you have trouble updating
Simply download the installer to the newer version from this link
http://www.mozilla.org/
Uninstall your version thru Add/Remove programs and Install the latest version
This version includes Security updates for Firefox

Your using Paltalk>>Free version????
Considered Spyware by many
Including Symantec's
Take a look Here
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...re.paltalk.html
Also, this is part of their Privacy Policy found here
http://www.paltalk.com/PalTalkSite/privacy.html
Code: [Select]
The ads appearing on this Web site are delivered to users by a Paltalk proprietary ad serving system. We share Web site usage information about users with reputable third party ad networks for the purpose of targeting our banner advertisements on Paltalk software.Optional for you to have it
I don't use Instant Messengers except for MSN built into SP2 , so I don't have much comment on them
Many use a program called Trillian
As I mentioned I don't use either
But Here is part of Trillians Privacy Policy
Code: [Select]
With respect to Ad Servers: We do not partner with or have special relationships with any ad server companies. Here's a link to their site, you can read the whole Privacy policy in the link below on this page
http://www.trillian.cc/downloads/
Again, your choice to keep Paltalk, but compare the difference

==Your version of Sun Java is out of date
You may want to check for an update
Open the Java Icon in Windows Control Panel

==Your version of Spybot is out of date
I would uninstall Spybot 1.3 from Add/Remove programs
Restart the computer if prompted
Grab the latest version of Spybot 1.4 from
HERE
 or HERE
Remember to ensure it is updated and run a scan

Stay safe  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
