Some advice for victims of a beeping computer

Last summer, my computer would run fine, but would start maknig an annoying, siren-like beeping sound that wouldn't stop until you rebooted the thing.  It turned out the machine was having an overtemp problem because one of the fans got disconnected.

It's a good thing my mom solved the problem before the machine got cooked.

If your computer starts beeping, but otherwise is running normally, try the following:

Put a fan in back of the computer and let it (the fan) run on high.  This should reduce the occurrance of beeping.

Most computers have 3 internal fans: one for the processor, one for the motherboard, and one for the power supply.

put your hand on the back of the machine.  If it's unusually warm, you could end up having the beeping problem.

To prevent overheating:

Avoid placing the tower on the floor

Give the machine some breathing room.  Don't have the back of it right up against a wall.

Keep the inside of the machine clean.

I remember I had a user who posted a Hijackthis log
Got her clean but she still complained about the computer rebooting every couple of minutes
Asked her to check some stuff and everything looked good
Finally asked her if the inside of the computer was clean
Could she please take a look around back at the fan for dirt build up

Said fan was clean but it wasn't turning
Asked her, no demanded almost, she stopped using the computer and get it fixed
By the way, she wasn't getting the beeping sounds
