Symevent not functioning
« on: September 26, 2001, 06:43:52 AM »
I have installed an rc1 eval dsk from xp pro dual booting with w2k .
Now my symevent doesn\'t function anymore so my automatic virus detection is disabled in w2k. I have repaired the boot system of w2k and they replaced ntldr and other bootfiles ,and NAV is functioning again , but now I cannot enter winXP anymore .If I let XP repair his bootfiles .my NAV will not work , is terer a way around .
Win XP on C drive 0
Win 2k on D  drive 1 ( Bootfiles on C:)

Repair the bootfiles using Windows 2000 and then edit the boot.ini file to boot XP as well.

This is my hard drive config - 4 partitions

WIN98 - Primary
WIN2K - Hidden primary
PROGRAMS - logical drive in extended partition
STORAGE - logical drive in extended partition (XP here)

This is the boot.ini file used to boot any OS, (using the XP boot loader though)

[boot loader]
timeout=4
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)WINDOWS=\"Microsoft Windows XP Professional\" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINNT=\"Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional\" /fastdetect
C: = \"Microsoft Windows\"

Setup your 2k boot.ini similar to this and you should be golden. Make sure your partition data is correct.

Symevent not functioning
« Reply #2 on: September 26, 2001, 03:21:59 PM »
Tks Big Z , I found the solution .
As I allways have the latest symantec updates automatically ,
I found a small prog on the site of Symantec SEINST.EXE to update the SYMEVENT files and that did it .
I didn\' understand at first because when I changed the ntldr and ntdetect.com from winxp to the ones from w2k , the symevent file was loaded in w2k,but I had to change the files again to boot in winXP .With the normal ntldr  and ntdetect.com files from XP , w2k loaded also normally but only the symevent file did not function .
Anyway tks again for the reply .
