Guestolo plz Help. Malware
« on: July 04, 2005, 06:33:51 AM »
Malware has put itself on my pc.   Antivirus Gold and Online Dating as well as a fake Spyware Remover program have taken over. My desktop wallpaper has been taken over...  and temporarily was not able to use Internet Explorer.
Here is a HiJack THis log and a Microsoft Antispware report.              I had SpySHeriff  on my pc a few weeks ago, and was able to erase that. But this is different.  ANy help would be appreciated... THANKS
------------------------------
I ran a Microsoft ANtispyware scan.. and it showed the following detections.. SO i removed and quarantined them. THen did another HiJack THis log (Below)             Then i did another Antivirus scan.. which came up clean...       CAN U plz help with the removal of the malware and return my desktop to normal.. THANKS

Hi again Karnage
Just turning in for the night
If I could get you too repost a fresh Hijackthis log I'll look at it tomorrow when I get off work

Please don't use any spaces in the log if you purposely put them there

Did you install IE-Spyad and SpywareBlaster that was recommended before?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

ON THE desktop wallpaper; there is blue screen with white text which reads:
"SECURITY WARNING                  A FATAL ERROR IN IE HAS OCCURED.......    ERROR WAS CAUSED BY TROJAN-SPY.HTML.SMITFRAUD.C......."

when i start my IE browser:        oneclicksearches.com  appears.

ALSO  here is a Uninstall list form HiJackThis.  Another strange thing is.. when i turn on the PC.. a different  version of MSN Messenger starts up automatically.. EVEN THO the options settings have this feature DISABLED..

Guestolo plz Help. Malware
« Reply #6 on: July 05, 2005, 08:03:35 PM »
Hello again

Can you do the following please
Download and save SmitRem.zip
Extract the folder within to your desktop.
We'll need this later

Ewido just had a major update
Can you do the following please
Open Ewido
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later

Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE

Once in safe mode

==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
DECLINE to Log off or Restart  when scan is done.

====Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Click on the Settings button on the right
Select "Scan Every File"
OK it and then click on the "Complete System Scan"
Please refrain from opening any other Windows as Ewido is running
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  1. Perform Action = Remove
  2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  3. Perform Actions with all Infections
  Then click OK

When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/bar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/search.php?qq=%1
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.oneclicksearches.com/

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe, msmsgs.exe
O2 - BHO: VMHomepage Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpDC6.tmp

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intel32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\intel32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Intel system tool] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hookdump.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Stay in Safe mode
Open the SmitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Afterwards, Restart back to Normal mode

Back in Windows
Run another scan with Hijackthis and post a fresh log
Also include the Report from Ewidos

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

I'll check back tomorrow how your doing, I'm off to the big bed  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Can I have you post another Ewido log if you run it please
But please run Ewido in Safe mode after you run Windows CleanUp!
Good night

Remember, don't let Microsoft Anti-Spyware interfere with any fixes
If I didn't warn you before
If MAS prompts about any changes
Allow them, so it won't interfere

sorry..  i missed this bit:     and accidently BLOCKED the change
------
"Remember, don't let Microsoft Anti-Spyware interfere with any fixes
If I didn't warn you before
If MAS prompts about any changes
Allow them, so it won't interfere"
--------------

BUT then i REPEATED the Smitfraud.reg step and the Cleanup!  scan.
THen i ALLOWED the changes in  Microsoft Anti-Spyware .

THe MSN DOES NOT appear any more and the flashing yellow ! sign has not appeared.       ONE MORE thing tho...: there is still   AVGOLD, ONLINE DATING and REMOVE SPYWARE   icons on my desktop. WHAT is the best way to remove those ?? THANKS

Here is a fresh Hijack this log:            and a REPORT from Ewido suite 3.5.  THANKS A LOT FOR ALL UR HELP http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Go ahead and manually delete the shortcuts on the desktop

Also Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Uninstall Manager
If it exists
Left click and Highlight
AntivirusGold 2.0
and then Remove from list

Your Hijackthis log is hard to read again with all those spaces  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
Can you supply a fresh one without the spaces please

Could you also delete this entry if found, in bold
Let me know if you found it

That looks better, you should clear your System Restore points again
I gave you instructions last time  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

IE-Spyad is a great compliment to SpywareBlaster
Especially if your an Internet Explorer user

I hope you install it
Here's the instructions
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
IE-Spyad is compatible with SP2 as well

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here
