I work in a school district and one of my computers in the library has  been acting up for a while.  Usually I can run SpyBot, AdAware and Microsoft AntiSpyware and this takes care of the problem.  I currently have a cfgmgr52.dll error popping up on startup and cannot get it fixed.  I feel this PC also has many other problems that are not obvious to me.  I have read numerous posts in many forums and would like to get my problem resolved.

Sorry for the delay

Can you access your Add/Remove programs and remove the following
Bearshare free version comes bundled with Spyware

ButterflyOasis screensaver If it's the free version is comes bundled with Spyware

WeatherBug If you didn't intentionally install Weatherbug please remove it

Restart your computer after remove all or any of the above

Back in Windows
Just checking on something
Can you open Spybot
Click on HELP>>ABOUT
Let me know Spybot version and latest detection date

Also open Ad-Aware
In the main window under Initialization Status click on DETAILS
Let me know Reference Number and Internal build

Could you also post a fresh Hijackthis log

Thanks for your help.  

I uninstalled Butterfly and WeatherBug.  I could not find Bearshare in Add/Remove or in program files.  I checked out my versions of SpyBot and AdAware.  AdAware was v. 6.0 so I uninstalled it and downloaded SE v. 1.06.  

SpyBot v. 1.4  detection date 2005-7-8

AdAware SE Build 1.06r1  definition file SE1R53 07-07-2005.

I updated them and ran them again and received the same cfgmgr error as before.

Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Uninstall Manager
Click the SAVE LIST button
Save the list to desktop
Copy and paste back the whole contents of this log too

Not too bad, you should access your add/remove programs and remove
Nielsen//NetRatings
Not recommended, up to you to remove it, but I would get rid of it

Restart your computer

Remove these folders
C:\Program Files\NetRatingsNetmeter <-folder
C:\Program Files\BearShare <-folder

If everything is running better, please do the following
You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply click the "enable all protection"
