Gaobot worm
« on: August 01, 2005, 07:52:09 PM »
Hello -Could you help me please with a spyware problem?

I recently downloaded the "free version" of Xoftspy -

the free version does not remove spyware, it only scans

for it, then tells you what it found....I'm just

wondering if I have a false positive from Xoftspy...
After it scanned, it came up with...

Gaobot Worm-  "We are currently experiencing a problem

where we are 99%  confident we have the RBot/SDbot

Trojan, the main reason for this being the WUAMGRD.EXE

process running at very high cpu usage etc, often with

multiple instances."

I also scanned with most recent updates with Norton

Antivirus 2004-  It found nothing-

I then  downloaded Symantec's Gaobot removal tool...it

didn't find it at all.....
I then tried the "manual method" by going into the

registy editor with Symantec's step-by-step

instructions...It came up with no evidence of Gaobot...

I also ran the free versions (with most recent updates)

of:
Ad-Aware SE Personal-found nothing
A-Squared-found nothing
Microsoft Antispyware-found nothing
Spybot-Search and Destroy-found nothing
and I run in the background Spyware Blaster, with

immunization turned on

First I ran all of these in "normal mode", then I ran

them all again in "safe mode"

Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Sorry for the delay and thanks for the updated hijackthis log

XoftSpy isn't my personal favorite, I would uninstall it and keep with
Microsofts' Anti-Spyware>>Spybot 1.4 and Ad-aware se 1.06

Can you do the following please
If your not running the latest version of Ad-Aware, can you install the newest version now
Here's a direct link to the free version
Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Make sure ad-aware is right up to date, don't run a scan yet

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders, cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Give the link time to load or try it twice, it may be busy
Don't run this yet, we'll need it in a bit

==Download and then Install
Ewido Security Suite

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We'll fix that later
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

==Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. [color=\"red\"]*In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download[/color].
* Save it to your desktop or a folder

Please Save these instructions too a Notepad file on the desktop for reference
Disconnect from the Internet

Run Pocket KillBox.exe

In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing
Control + C

Killbox files to highlight between dotted lines
===================================================
C:\Program Files\MsConfigs\MsConfigs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\p2pnetwork.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\CMD.COM
C:\WINDOWS\system32\netstat.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ping.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regedit.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tasklist.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskkill.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.com
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tracert.com
C:\Program Files\winupdate\winupdate.exe
C:\Program Files\Llpazwg\Kyoqu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cvrjft.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cdkd.exe

===================================================
*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer doesn't restart
Please Restart it now manually into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

In safe mode
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Find and delete the following folders
C:\Program Files\winupdates <-this folder
C:\Program Files\Llpazwg <-this folder

==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files, when it's done
DECLINE to Log off or Restart when scan is done.

==Open Ewido trojan scanner
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Click on the Settings button on the right
Select "Scan Every File"
OK it and then click on the "Complete System Scan"
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
*2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
*3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

NOTE: When Ewido is running do NOT open any other Windows
Let it do it's job

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~BE89472C-B803-4D1D-9A9A-0A63660E0FE3} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p2pnetworking] p2pnetworking.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [JcBDl0L] C:\WINDOWS\cvrjft.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cdkd] C:\WINDOWS\cdkd.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ldroy] C:\Program Files\Llpazwg\Kyoqu.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [p2pnetworking] p2pnetworking.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Open Ad-Aware
Click START
Click the radio button to Perform a Full system scan then click NEXT
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

Restart back to Normal mode

Please post a fresh Hijackthis log and the report from Ewidos

IMPORTANT: If prompted at any time by any of your Protection programs about a change, ALLOW them so they won't interfere with any fixes we try
Eg.. SpySweeper and Mic. Anti-spyware

Thanks for your help, guestolo !

In the last  5 days or so , upon booting up, then going online first to my Earthlink homepage, internet explorer very shortly would shut down, and might do this 1 or 2 more times in the next half hour or so.  It's been doing this every day since.

Today, after performing all your instructions, and after finally booting back up in normal mode,  I once again had trouble...after dialling up , my home page wouldn't show, and by clicking on my IE icon on the desktop, IE wouldn't open up at all....

I couldn't open up Task Manager, and I also couldn't  power down in the usual way - I had to "illegally " shut down with the power switch.

I then booted back up, ran another more recent Hijack This log, and here it is....

Download and save WinPFind.zip
UNZIP the contents to your desktop
Don't run it yet

Can you disable Microsoft's Anit-Spyware and Spysweepers realtime protection until clean please

MAS
Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Options, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

SpySweeper
Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

EDIT>>Meant to add, boot to safe mode at this time

In safe mode
Open the WinPFind folder you extracted to desktop
Double click on WinPFind.exe
This could take some time as it will scan your drive

Once the scan is done, reboot back to Normal mode
Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab--- Reset home page

Go to the WinPFind folder
Locate WinPFind.txt and post the results

Also post a fresh hijackthis log

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Please ensure that if Alladin Systems software has any Spyware realtime protections enabled you disable them

Close down all browser windows, including this one

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart your computer and post a fresh hijackthis log
If prompted about changes by any anti-spyware program
Allow them so they don't interfere with any fixes

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Thanks again for your help, questolo -

Within the last hour my computer did a strange thing while I was online - it suddenly booted down, then booted back up again to the desk top-  it has never done that before... it did it without any error messages or "blue screen" .

Here is the latest Hijack this log - I also disabled Aladdin's Internet Cleanup "NetBlockade" realtime protection...

Gaobot worm
« Reply #9 on: August 08, 2005, 09:33:40 PM »
It happened for the second time tonight - this time while I was off line - there was another spontaneous "shut down" and then a reboot- both times it reboots first to scan disk, then stops at the desk top (I forgot to mention the "scan disk" thing last time ).

Both times when it shut down I was using my software "microsoft streets and trips 2005"  -I've never had problems while using the software before - I wonder if I now have some corrupted files due to some spyware infections....

Just thought I would add this info in case it helps you...

Thanks.

« Reply #10 on: August 09, 2005, 12:13:31 AM »
That entry won't remove, isn't usually that tough to get rid of
Seen many times with Earthlink customers

Can you do the following please

Reboot into safe mode
Run Hijackthis and fix checked this entry with all other windows closed
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Restart back to Normal mode
Make sure you DON'T let any protection programs interfere
If you are prompted
Let me know exactly what it says and what you did

Post a fresh hijackthis log

Do the following
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as Export.bat
Save this file on the desktop

Code: [Select]
regedit /e Export.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks"Double click on Export.bat, a text file called Export.txt will be placed on the desktop
Copy and paste back the contents

Could you also check the following, it may be coincidence you were running
Mic. S&T 2005
Right click MyComputer icon on desktop
Left click properties
Click Advanced tab
Under Startup and Recovery click Settings
Uncheck Automatically Restart if checked
OK out of there

When a prog. does cause an error you may be able to see the error message

« Reply #12 on: August 09, 2005, 09:12:16 PM »
Within the last 4-5 hours of having my computer on,  only in the last hour or so did I use again my MS Streets and Trips 2005 software.  While using it , it once again spontaneously shut down and rebooted with scan disk, then I went right away into MS S and T again,  and it shut down and rebooted again - same way.

I am running a fresh Hijack this log now....here it is.  Thanks.

Curious why that entry in HIjackthis returned
Can you try double clicking on Export.bat again and show me the new text file please
"Export.txt"

Did you do the following?
"Right click MyComputer icon on desktop
Left click properties
Click Advanced tab
Under Startup and Recovery click Settings
Uncheck Automatically Restart if checked
OK out of there"

Have you tried uninstalling Mic Streets and Maps
Restart the computer and reinstalling?

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Follow the instructions posted http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php/topic/22942-please-read-how-to-post-logs-from-frst/\'>Click Here

Earlier this evening I also uninstalled and then reinstalled MS Streets and Trips 2005.
I opened the software, within about 2 minutes the computer shut down and immediately rebooted straigt to the desk top (without going into Scan Disk first)

I then opened MS streets...  again, opened up some maps, waited about 3 to 4 minutes, it shutdown once again, rebooted then went into Scan Disk , followed by a BLUE SCREEN containing some of the following:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.  If this is the first time you have seen this STOP ERROR screen, restart your computer.  If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Run a system diagnostic utility supplied by your hardware manufacturer.......
........Technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80042000,0x00000000,
    0x00000000)
  Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical memory dump complete.  Contact your.....for assistance. "

To get out of this screen , I had to hit the power off button, and restart ...it went into scan disk again, and then gave me the following message before leaving me at the desktop :

"The system has recovered from a serious error...."

This error message also left about 2 lines of an "error signature"

That's it...

This is getting very discouraging, but I am grateful for all the time you spend with me and all the many others out there having lots of computer woes ...

It definitely seems related to Mic M&Streets software
Did you try uninstalling it?

This error could also be due to a hardware problem
Since this error started, what software or hardware have you installed recently??

This may give a clue

Since your previous post I did uninstall and then reinstalled the MS streets software last night, with those same shutdown results as mentioned in my previous post.

Just before my very first post on August 1,  I was tring to install a new sound card to accomodate a new 5.1 speaker system for my computer.   The installation was unsuccessful, as I first had to disable the existing "onboard" sound , to fix a conflict problem.

The software and new drivers for the sound card are still installed.   I took the new sound card back out, and the original onboard sound is still disabled.

When I was trying to originally install the new sound card, the computer would go into a loop of immediatly shutting down, rebooting, going into scan disk, going to the desktop for about 2 minutes, then shutdown, reboot,  all over again and again.

I tried my luck with Creative's tech support, but no success - all they could suggest was conflict with the old sound - but I did disable that , and so I started considering causes from viruses, spyware, etc. and when I ran a couple newer newer anti-spywares,  like spybot,  adware, I was finding some, but couldn't get rid of them.

I wasn't even going to address the sound card issue until I first tried to clean my system of "malwares"....

So, here I am...

Seems like it very well may be the problem

Seeing that you removed the Sound card
You should uninstall the Sound card driver and software

Restart the computer
Enter the bios and enable the onboard sound

See if the reboots disappear

If it does, there may be a hardward compatibility issue
You should visit Creative's site and see if there are any updated drivers for your card also
They may have updated to fix some issues

By going to Creative's site I was finally able to figure out how to delete the new sound card's drivers from my hard drive, and I also re-enabled my old onboard sound card .  I wanted to see if the reboot issues go away after restoring the old onboard sound card the way it use to be.   It's running fine with sound again.

Since I still have some of the auto features disabled on my anti-spyware,  I manually ran the software again, all came up clean except Spybot Search and Destroy....it found Wild Tangent, and supposedly deleted it....

I still find it in my Add/Remove list  of programs , and it won't uninstall from there....is this something I have to be concerned with right now?

As a second and still remaining issue, ( and after I restored my old sound card and ran antispywares )   my computer still reboots within about 3 minutes of opening up MS Streets and Trips maps.... it only does this when I open up this software....

I imagine this software eats up a fair amount of memory ( I have 512 MB RAM installed)  ,  could I be somehow be suddenly using up all available memory and causing it to shutdown and reboot?
