I run Mc Afee AV scan on my workstation (XP pro) and normally it takes about 15-20 minutes ( i think)..anyways i certainly feel its taking a whole lot longer nowadays...like an hour or so. I havent installed anything new lately. What cud it be?

Hi Stuartt,

Have you looked, where the scan lags? A couple of general stuff to check would be if the system is infected by spyware or adware, hope you  have something installed for this. Is the system slow otherwise also?If yes, i think you should look at a disk clean up and defragment. Virus scans take longer of the HD is badly fragmented. Also how much RAM do you have?

Hi
Yes, i'm a system administrator and i have experienced a similar
problem due to fragmented drives. Even workstations need to be
defragmented regularly to keep up their performance.
