Network Trouble XP Pro
« on: August 22, 2005, 09:29:13 PM »
I have a basic peer to peer network and for a while I have been receiving access denied error message.

My host computer running XP pro with sp2 has full access to the network without any troubles. This is also how I connect to the internet. This computer must connect before the client can use the net.

My computer (the client) ,also running xp pro with sp2, can see the host computer and can use the shared internet connection but cannot access the shared folders which arent displayed in my network places i have to search for the computer with search. When I try to access the computer I get the message "\\family-computer not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."

All access permissions are the same on both computers I have disabled the firewall and norton anti virus I have no other firewall software and I dont have norton internet sercurity.

I have had this problem for months and no one can solve it  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':o\' /> . can someone please help. I have little network knowledge so please explain clearly http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> . thanks in advance for your help.

I tried all this aswell they can ping each other without any trouble.

I was thinking that it could be a virus or spyware but norton or adware doesnt find anything http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' /> ?

1) Double click your network connection to see if you are sending and recieve bytes.
2) Check your cable with a known working network.
3) Uninstall and reinstall your network card.
4) Check you are using the same Workgroup.
5) Enter ip address on both machines e.g 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2
6) Use Subnet mask 255.0.0.0
7) Disable any Norton internet security or similar.
8) Try network machine with another machine.
9) All else fails format C:/ and reinstall Windows.

Good luck.

I have the same problem since XP arrive, I followed all possible solutions and nothing works, Microsoft ignores this particular problem and no gave a solution.
Set correct right and permission.- didn´t work
set the same user  admin name on both computers.-didn´t work
star both computers with the same name.-didn´t work
both makes ping.-
erase and make a new network.-didn´t work
use a cross wire or swith or router.-didn´t work
even more: I formated both computers and install the same stuff with a disk image AND DIDN´T WORK !!!!!!!.

So....there are no possible solution to this case.
