Guestolo, if you're out there, i could really use your help. You've helped me twice in the past, and I really trust your instructions.

My comptuer virus checker (Trend Micro Internet Security) keeps telling me I have TSPY_Alemod on my computer, but is unable to quarantine it. It's infecting the wininit.dll file. Can you tell me how I am to go about getting rid of it?

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Access your Add/Remove programs via control panel

Uninstall the following if found
Messenger Plus! 3
you can reinstall Messenger plus later if needed, but choose NOT to install the SPONSOR
Please don't reinstall it until we have you clear of all malware

Also, remove the following if found
STARWARE

Restart your computer afterwards

Back in Windows can you do the following
Find and delete the following folders if found
C:\WINDOWS\PROFILES\DANIEL\APPLICATION DATA\AUDIO AMEN <-folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\STARWARE <-folder

Run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log

Also
Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as find.bat

Code: [Select]
dir C:\WINDOWS\Tasks /a /s > files.txt
start notepad files.txt

Save this to your desktop or a folder
Double click on find.bat
A text file will open, copy and paste the contents back here
If you happen to close out the text file before you had time to copy and paste it
A file called "files.txt" will be placed on the desktop or folder
You can open and post the contents

Can you do the following please

Go to Windows Updates, ensure you have all latest critical updates installed
If not, download all Critical updates
Restart the computer if prompted
Don't install recommended updates unless something you want

If you do have all latest critical updates can you restart your computer anyways

Back in Windows

Can you go to this link
Give this site time to load
Jotti's Online Malware scan

Use the browse button and navigate to this file on your hard drive
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wininet.dll <-this file
Right click on it  and choose Select
Then use the Submit button
Let it finish scanning
Could you post back the results of the scan back here please

I hope you use these 2 utilities and keep them updated

SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer

For the times you need IE
Install IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection

If you decide to reinstall MSN Plus, remember to choose without the Sponsor
Supply a fresh hijackthis log if you do reinstall it just to make sure everything is alright
