Hijack help required for non techie
« on: August 30, 2005, 08:47:48 AM »
Hi

I've come across this site whilst trying to unravel the meaning of my Hijack This log.

I've updated my Norton antivirus (although I'm worried something may have diabled the live updates), run Adaware 6 and Spybot search and destroy, and my new log is listed below.

I know you keep answering the same type of queries for people, but I'd be really grateful if someone could have a look at this log sometime and tell me what I should be gettig rid of.

Thanks in anticipation  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Spyware Begone is not a recommened removal tool

Can you do the following please
Uninstall Spyware Begone

Also thru your Add/Remove programs remove the following

Adaware 6 and Spybot search and destroy
I'm asking you to remove Ad-Aware and Spybot
First>>Ad-Aware is way out of date and we need to get you updated

Spybot>>I suspect your also running an older version of Spybot
If your not using Spybot 1.4 remove it too please

Restart your computer afterwards

Back in Windows find and delete the following folder
C:\freescan <-this folder

Afterwards, let's update those 2 legit Spyware removal tools

Download and Install Spybot 1.4 from
HERE
 or HERE

After installation--Click the UPDATE button on the left
SEARCH FOR UPDATES on the right
Check, and download all updates
Click the Search & Destroy button on the left
Check for Problems---When the Scan is complete
FIX all selected promblems in RED

RESTART the computer

Back in Windows

Download and Install Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06

Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Click START
Click the radio button to Perform a Full system scan then click NEXT
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer

Back in Windows
Run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log
Please include the whole log which includes the Header (Hijackthis version, O.S., etc..)

Did you purposely install a Keylogger on your computer?
It can be legit or not wanted, I'm just checking
Here's a link to the makers of this software
