Computer behaving poorly

Here is my log which I have to copy onto a disk and bring to another computer because this site is one that hangs.  I can open, log-in, and compose a post.  When I try to submit it hangs.  Hangs at our online school site and others.  Can you help please?

Ps I have run, Norton, Spy-bot 1.04 found a few items - deleted, Ad-aware which found tracking cookiees and removed, and ActiveScan/Housecall found nothing.  Cleaned temp files, and cookies and cache. Scans were run in order listed with a re-boot in between.  I repeated Spy-bot and recevied a clean report.

It looks like some Windows updates for Media Player didn't get totally installed before posting this log

Can you ensure you reboot your computer and post a fresh hijackthis log

You never did get back to me after I asked you to temporarily disable Norton's firewall and see if you have total access to these sites your having problems with
What happened
Last I heard you could post from this computer if you disabled the Firewall

I am sorry I thought I answered you.  I only have a windows firewall and it didn't help when I disabled. According to Norton Sites I just have Notron Anit-virus no firewall.  

Yes, I could post for about a week and then it went back to selective surfing and posting.

Also my daughter tried to burn a CD yesterday and it would not work.  Perhaps that related to the media playerupdate not properly installing.

Through working with the technical support at our online school they had me uninstall xp2 and reinstall to see if that would help me get on school site.  Worked for two days.  But I mention this in case things you asked me to do before seem undone.  They have given up helping me and just told me to use another computer or drop the course..

I still have a feeling Norton's is to blame, but before we jump the gun
Since you don't have any other firewall installed
Make sure XP's firewall is enabled if you still have it disabled

Can you do the following
==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders,cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Give the link time to load or try it twice, it may be busy

I would like you too reboot before you run this
You may even want to reboot to safe mode

Before you reboot do the following
Run another scan with Hijackthis and fix checked these entries with all other windows closed, including this one
O2 - BHO: ST - {9394EDE7-C8B5-483E-8773-474BF36AF6E4} - C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\ST\01.03.0000.1005\en-xu\stmain.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: MSNToolBandBHO - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\MSN Toolbar\01.02.3000.1001\en-us\msntb.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)


Now reboot to safe mode
Then simply
==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files

Then reboot back to Normal mode
Startup may be a bit slower as CleanUp! will also clear your Prefetch folder
This is normal, startup will be quicker on next reboot

When your back in Windows, don't open a browser yet
Go to START>>RUN>>Type in cmd
Hit OK

at the command prompt type in the following in bold
Then hit Enter on your keyboard

ipconfig /flushdns

Then type in exit and hit Enter

Does that help?

Okay good!  I can post on my own machine! Looks like that helped here!

I checked my school site and it still hangs.  I can login but not get to coursework.  I get "page cannot be displayed."  Can do it on other computers so not school's issue.  Another site  myfamily.com  I can login but the little circle in top right hand corner continues to spin and spin!  The status line reads "waiting for myfamily.112.2o7.net." After two minutes now it is still doing that.

Thanks for your assistance.  Appreciate it.

Access your Internet options via control panel
Under the Privacy tab, set the slider to Medium
Under the Content tab>>Clear SSL Slate
Under the Advanced tab>>Restore Defaults
Is Date and time set right on the computer?


go to START>>RUN>>type or copy and paste this into the empty field

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

With all other windows closed, including this one click OK

Restart the computer
Any luck?

Does this happen in Firefox as well?

Try the following

Log off all sites your having problems with if your logged in
With all users on your computer

Restart your computer into Safe mode with Networking
Try and access the sites again
Any luck?

If no luck
Make sure you log off the sites again <-this is important
Reboot back to Normal mode

Sign in with a different user account if you have one and try the site again
If no other user
Try activating the Guest account on XP

Go to START>>Control Panel>>User Accounts
Select Guest account and then Activate it

Switch user and login with Guest account
Try accessing the sites again

Well now, I'm really stumped
We deactivate the firewall from Symantec's and everthing was okay for a week but went sour afterwards

Are you willing to try and uninstall Norton's products altogether and see if the problem clears up
Don't forget that Norton's can be troublesome to uninstall, so check their website to alternative measures beforehand, if you need a hand uninstalling let me know

You mentioned alternatives.... Do you mean check for my symptoms to see if they have an answer before uninstalling?

I am willing to uninstall.  I've used AVG before so not a loyalist to Norton.  If Norton is troublesome to uninstall then I welcome your help.

Sorry Bill, I been very busy at work and had a hard time making it here

I would sure like to see if it's Norton's that interupting your browsing habits

One entry in your log may indicate you some sort of software as a proxy

Typically Norton's can be removed from Add/REmove programs
But it doesn't always cooperate with the uninstall process

Can you give me your exact version of Norton's that your running please

Hi sorry so long in reply.  Thought I would check in. Really busy weekend.  Symptoms seem to be getting worse so really not enjoying being near computer.
