Is Your Laptop NOISY?
« on: September 19, 2005, 11:07:36 PM »
I currently have a 2 year old HP Laptop, Pentium 4 2.66GHZ, 80gig HD, 512RAM, and the thing is incredibly noisy.  I'm talking about the fan.  It's quiet for about the first 2 minutes after I turn it on, then the fan starts.  It's not bad at first, but after about 10 minutes it kicks in louder..and just when you think its as loud as it gets it gets even louder.  Reminds me of a vaccuum cleaner.  I'm almost embarrased to use it in my college library, and I haven't used it in class because of the noise.  Does anyone else have this problem with their laptop or know why mine is so loud?  I almost want to sell it and buy a new laptop but I want to make sure I get a quiet one..so I want to know what makes a laptop noisy?  And help would be greatly appriciated!

What is your CPU useage? (Control-Alt-Del) The fan could be at full blast because of your CPU heat.

Yes, the computer does get hot very fast and I'm sure that's why the fan gets louder.  But I don't have to be doing much at all for the computer to get hot.  I could just turn the comp on and walk away and come back in 20 mins and the fan would be blasting.
