Defragment Problem

We forgot to defragment a computer for a year and a half - It just won''t complete a defragmenting now.  It justs gets so far and then starts over and over without finishing.. Am I in deep trouble or is it not a big deal?

What OS are you running?

Try Disabling screen savers and power options ahead of time

Reboot into safe mode
Run a standard scandisk before running the defragger
Try running Defrag
