IE pop-up error "1"
« on: September 26, 2005, 03:45:35 PM »
I started getting error messages from Internet Explorer 6.0, at certain websites. It seems like a virus or worm, but maybe not. A pop-up appears, the only text is “1”. The only choice it to press “OK”.

I am running Norton Anti-virus, Zone alarm. I have already run Spybot, Ad-aware, SpywareBlaster.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I think the best thing you can do to save yourself the trouble of IE is download Mozilla Firefox. You've probably been suggested to download it before. It's a hell of a lot better than IE. It's faster, I've never had any problems with it, and it's not deeply wired into your Windows OS, so if it ever has problems, Windows won't.

<!--J CARTER POP-UNDER CODE v1.8 for unionleader.com (12 hour) -->
<script language="javascript">

It seems to just be a javascript popup. Nothing to worry about; However, I would also suggest firefox which you can get at www.firefox.com The great thing about this browser is that it has Pop up Blocking and it has more security than Internet Explorer. It has custom plugins and best of all it is free.
Your second option would be to download the service packs and that will enable Popup blocking but still does not give you as much security as FireFox.

Thank you Flipback and Ziniphrix. I am grateful for your help. Seeing the output from the javascript makes it obvious what was going on, but i never saw that.

It's off to getfirefox.com.
