I have downloaded Killbox and and also have Adaware 6.0 and CCleaner on my system.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if this problem is linked to winsupdater.exe not shutting down each time I log off. I have to end now the program each time to shut down.

Thanks.

Sorry for the delay
Follow the instructions closely
Please Download and UNZIP to desktop Metallica's p2pnetwork.bfu fix
Make sure this is unzipped to desktop
[attachment=347:attachment]

Uninstall Ad-Aware 6, it is outdated
Ensure you have the latest version of Ad-Aware
Download and Install Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Make sure it's updated but don't run a scan yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido Security Suite

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, IF you get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We'll fix that next
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

==Download and UNZIP to desktop
BFU.zip
So you now have BFU.exe extracted to desktop

Now that you have the tools,
Please Print this out or save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation
Stay disconnected from the Internet

Double click to run BFU.exe
Use the "Open Script file" button (the folder icon next to Scriptfile to execute)
Navigate to p2pnetwork.bfu on your desktop
Right click p2pnetwork.bfu and choose Select
In Brute Force Uninstaller select Execute
Let it finish then Exit

==Run CCleaner and clean those temp folders

==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
*2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
*3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [] winlog.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsupdater] C:\Program Files\winsupdater\winsupdater.exe /auto

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [] winlog.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Open Ad-Aware
Click START
Click the radio button to Perform a Full system scan then click NEXT
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer back to Normal mode

Back in windows
Run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log
Also include the whole report from Ewidos you saved earlier

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

I appear to be cured. Thankyou for your help and precise instructions.
The only strand I couldn't find was winsupdater strand to check the box in hijackthis.

I have attached my two logs for you to have a quick look to see if I am in the clear.

If everything is running better, please do the following
You should disable system restore and then reenable it
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks
SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link
IE-Spyad is compatible with SP2 as well

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply click the "enable all protection"

NOTE: I didn't mention fixing Findfast.exe in your log
It's not malicious but can be a resource hog
You should shut it down in your task manager and then  disable it in your Control Panel and have hijackthis fix this entry
O4 - Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE

You may also want to have hijackthis fix this entry, office programs work fine without it, also a resource hog
O4 - Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE
if you make use of the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar, leave this entry alone
Remember to fix checked those 2 entries in hijackthis with all other windows closed and then restart your computer
If you opt to fix them  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Thanks for all your help again.  Just a couple of last things.

Before when I downloaded the Ewido Security Suite you had me shut down under additional options"Install background guard and Install context menu" when I first downloaded it.  You said  that we could fix those later. Should I do that now and if so how?

Also I have taken your advice and closed the two resource hogs in
Findfast.exe and OSA.exe.  I followed your instructions closely. The only thing is I knew how to shut down findfast in the task manager but I couldn't work out how to disable it in Control Panel.  I did run hijackthis and fix them both so does that step matter?

Lastly just an opinion. I am now running Ewido Security Suite, Adaware SE Personal, Xoftspy and am in the process of downloading SpywareBlaster and will download IE-SPYAD.  I am also running Zonealarm Pro and the Windows Firewall for SP2.  Finally I have Nortons Anti Virus.  I also have CCleaner.  Should I flick any of these in your opinion or if  not should I run them all at least once a week?

Thanks for all your help and I hopefully will not pester you further.

Nope, you did good
Ewido is fully functional for 2 weeks
I didn't want you unintentionally installing the right click menu and the guard
The guard can prohibit fixes we may still have to do

Optionally, you can now uninstall Ewido
Personally, I would hold onto it, even after the 2 weeks it's a great scanner

This bothers me
Quote
I am also running Zonealarm Pro and the Windows Firewall for SP2

It's very much NOT recommended that you run both at the same time
Actually, if you have the Security Center of SP2 enabled you will get the same advice
This can cause a conflict between the both and fight for the same resources
2 AV's or Firewalls are not recommended
I would stick with Zone Alarm and disable SP2's
http://www.utmem.edu/helpdesk/sp2/sp2firewall.htm

Please keep Zone Alarm enabled and disable the one supplied by SP2

Keep safe  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Oh, by the way, more info about Findfast

Oh, by the way, normally, when you use to install Ewido
You get this, this is where you got confused
I meant that error when updating Ewido
