Popups driving me crazy
« on: September 29, 2005, 07:52:37 AM »
I have Windows XP, and have used all the adware and spyware programs to get rid of these popups, but they are still there.    You have helped me before, and sadly here I am again asking for help.   I already have hjt installed on my pc, and also adaware as you suggested before, but the popups will not go away.  I ran the hjt and here is the logfile.

Also what are these W's with slashes through them?  They appear everywhere in my pc programs. What is causing that? When I send an email certain words are highlighted like a link.

The following line is copied and pasted from one of my emails:

       here is a ﷯recording﷯ for you

(the word recording is blue like a link, and it has these characters surrounding them. )
I've tried to find out why it is doing this and found nothing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is my log file from hjt:

Popups driving me crazy
« Reply #1 on: September 29, 2005, 11:33:44 PM »
Let's try the following
If you don't have CleanUp!

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders,cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run this yet, we'll need it in a bit
Alternate download location if having trouble with the first link

==Download and then Install
Ewido Security Suite

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, IF you get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We'll fix that next
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

"Please Save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop"

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: ts - {4006DCA3-433D-4FC8-AC36-42DA7797DCB7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bho.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lawtuvw] C:\WINDOWS\lawtuvw.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CMSystem] "C:\Program Files\CMSystem\CMSystem.exe"
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - {8293D547-38DD-4325-B35A-F1817EDFA5FC} - C:\Program Files\CMSystem\plugin.dll

O23 - Service: Windows Overlay Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\bdxvytb.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

Go to START>>RUN>>copy and paste the following line in bold and then hit OK

sc delete "Windows Overlay Components"

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Find and delete the following files or folders if they exist
C:\WINDOWS\lawtuvw.exe <-file
C:\WINDOWS\bdxvytb.exe <-file

C:\Program Files\CMSystem <-folder

Stay in safe mode
==Open Windows CleanUp!>>START>>programs>>Cleanup!
Click on the CleanUp button, let it finish scanning for files
DECLINE to Log off or Restart when scan is done.

==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Restart back to Normal mode

Run hijackthis again and post a fresh log
Also post the whole report from Ewidos

Firstly, thank you for your quick response. Yes, party poker used to be one that I have played quite often, but as of late I am getting disgusted with their programmed setup hands. I know that their program has some kind of spyware in it, because you ask me about it the last time I had problems with popups.  But now that you mention it, just how bad does this program effect my pc?

As for the logfile from hjt that you requested, here it is.

Can you run another scan with hijackthis and fix checked these entries with all other windows closed
O2 - BHO: ts - {4006DCA3-433D-4FC8-AC36-42DA7797DCB7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bho.dll
O16 - DPF: {072D3F2E-5FB6-11D3-B461-00C04FA35A21} (CFForm Runtime) - https://secure9.cfxhosting.com/CFIDE/classes/CFJava.cab
O16 - DPF: {FA3662C3-B8E8-11D6-A667-0010B556D978} (IWinAmpActiveX Class) - http://cdn.digitalcity.com/_media/dalaillama/ampx.cab

Access your add/remove programs via control panel
Try and remove from the list
Windows Overlay Components

Also, if you don't use or didn't purposely install Viewpoint Media Player
Remove it too

There are other entries you have to decide if they are reputable and safe
all related to online poker sites
PartyPoker
PokerStars
UltimateBet
UltimateBuddy
TestPokerStars.com
The Gaming Club Poker
WinstonPoker

If you didn't purposely install any of the above, or not needed, remove them
then finally remove
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3
Spybot isn't malware, but we should update you too the latest version

Restart your computer after removing any of the above

Back in Windows
Download and Install Spybot 1.4 from
HERE
 or HERE
Don't activate the Tea Timer when installing, it's a great feature but can get in the way
of any fixes we may still have to do
After installation--Click the UPDATE button on the left
SEARCH FOR UPDATES on the right
Check, and download all updates
Click the Search & Destroy button on the left
Check for Problems---When the Scan is complete
FIX all selected promblems in RED

RESTART the computer to finish the cleaning process

Back in Windows
Run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log

Could you also open Ad-Aware, click on Details
under intialization status
Let me know reference number and internal build

Here is the hjt logfile.  I uninstalled party poker and decided to  download a different poker site.  I know these programs slow down my pc, but poker is our favorite past time, and we win lots of money playing, so unless there is a site that you know of that won't effect my pc, the ones that I am using I guess will have to be overlooked for now.
 The sites we are now using are Ultimate bet. the gaming club, poker stars and Absolute poker.

Here is the logfile you asked for:

By the way, (I meant to ask in my post.)where are you from guestolo?  You don't say much about yourself in your profile. but it is obvious that you are a very nice person. You help so many people, with so many pc problems... thank you  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Sorry for the delay

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing)

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart your computer

Back in Windows
Find and delete this folder
 C:\Program Files\PartyPoker <-folder

If everything is running better, please do the following
You should disable system restore and then reenable it
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature

Once System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks
SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial
Download link

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply click the "enable all protection"
IE-Spyad is compatible with SP2

By the way, I'm in West Canada, right on the coast  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
