auto complete stopped working
« on: October 04, 2005, 04:56:55 PM »
I have Windows XP, I've been using it for a few years now and can normally keep my pc running properly...do the scans all the time, etc...but just this week a paranoid friend used it, did the "clear all lists" for all the forms and other fields that keep a memory of what you typed there...google is the one I relied on being able to double click or type the first letter and a whole list would pop up.  Well, this "friend" of mine (can I use the term friend for someone that messed up my computer????) since he cleared all the lists, I've tried to start building them again, but nothing is being saved.  I've made sure that Use Inline Auto Complete is checked in Internet Options Advanced, unchecked it and did a restart then re-checked it and did a restart, still nothing.  I also remember I would be prompted by a form asking if I want to save id's and form info when I normally do my own clearng of all lists and start using the forms again....nothing this time (unless my friend already got to that point and clicked no already.  How do I get this to start working again.  As I said, it just happened this past week, and its worked fine for me before when i clear the lists myself and start selctively rebuilding them...don't understand why this time is different?

Suggestion  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
See if this works for you, I'm not a big Internet Explorer user but I remember the settings were around this area

In IE
Click on TOOLS>>Internet Options>>
Click the CONTENT tab>>>Autocomplete

I assume you want all 3 checked
Web Addresses==Forms==User name and passwords

OK out of there and then close IE and restart it

See if that works for you

Do you want to post your own logs from FRST?

Check and see if your paranoid friend decided to get creative and Clear the Google Search History through the registry.

http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1300/

In regards to your paranoid friend, he probably had good intentions. He was probably trying to protect your privacy or his privacy.

Also search under: Tools ---> Internet Options--> Advanced Tab
Under the Security List make sure that the box to the left of "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is close" is unchecked.

Under: the Tools ---> Internet Options--> Under the Generals tab where it reads days to keep pages in history. Make sure it does not read 0

I would use the book mark page option to go quickly to sites. Besides who wants easy access to forms which have credit card information? And if a friend was going to use my computer I would not want him to have access to my search results either.

Hope this resolves your problem.
