Alarm
« on: October 27, 2001, 07:46:53 PM »
For the second time in three days I got an alarm in before initializing my os in dos .Something like \"..SPD not ...\" flashing
but before I can read it completely, it disapears and  my computer continues setting up normally with the choice between my two OS .I have changed my three memory cards of 128 mb sdram 133 by two 256 ones brand on brand  Infineon . What is SPD , I cannot figure it out .Tks in advance .

I found out SPD means \"serial presence detect \" for the SPD EEPROM ( I suppose it has something to do with the latency figures 222 333 ), and as the errort doesn\'t show each time I setup , I have taken out en reinserted  my memory to check if they were  \" well \"  inserted

I have now found out that my infineon memory is 333 latency , so I changed my bios settings I hope this will resolve the alarm

My efforts were in vain , I still get the flashing alarms .
no spd at dimms(3) or
no spd at dimms(4)
I suppose bank 3 and 4 of my second sdram site ???
What is wrong this is pc133 ram
My motherboard supports 3 x 256 single and double density dimms (768mb) , and an 100 mhgz cpu.I have an p3 700 (100x7). Should I replace my second memory module .

As I have a lot of time , I placed the second sdram module in socket 3 and got a full day without alarms . I assumed bad contacts on socket 2 .I cleaned the socket and placed a PC100 128mb sdram on it and it was immediately recognized and I will see if there will be more alarms
