WIN XP and MSCONFIG
« on: November 07, 2005, 09:51:43 PM »
I know how to use msconfig to remove items from the startup tab on windows XP.  But, then everytime I startup my computer it says that a modified startup has run and brings up msconfig each time.  Is there an easy way to permanently remove items from the list and/or get XP to quit asking me about my modified startup?

I'm not 100 percent sure this works on everything, but if you want to get rid of such things as the MSN BLock Checker virues, go into msconfig (start > run > msconfig ) goto the start up tab, untick it, then Ctrl Alt Deleat > End process the block checker. Then its usually installed in Program files, so deleat that file. then restart your computer. Follow them steps and use it for other files you want gone aswell...

Oh yes, and to get rid of the thing asking you at start up, it shouuld say "Show this at start up" or somthing, just untick it. and it shouldn't come up any more

Nikv,
Thanks for the tips.  I will look for that checkbox on login.  But, I am not sure what you mean about ctrl-alt-del.  I know how to kill off processes.  But, what I meant was how could I clean up the list in msconfig?  Those files must be coming from some place.  I want them removed from the list completely if possible.
Thanks, Rick
