Keep Getting Knocked Off the Internet - HijackThis
« on: November 09, 2005, 11:58:03 AM »
http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />   I keep getting knocked off the Internet after short periods (e.g., 5 minutes).  I unplug & replug the modem in, and then I get online for a few minutes before it happens again.  My computer is hooked up directly into the ISP's modem, so there is no router issue.

I saw another thread where the opinion was given that this problem is caused by spyware or viruses.

The HijackThis log for my computer is below.  Can anyone please help me with this!

Thanks in advance.

Keep Getting Knocked Off the Internet - HijackThis
« Reply #2 on: November 10, 2005, 12:47:49 PM »
Questolo--Thanks for the reply.  Here's the HijackThis info that you requested (I've pasted the contents of the txt file below in this post, and I've also attached the txt file itself to this post).

Please note that I have downloaded adaware & spywareblaster, but haven't really used them to clean out my registry, out of fear that I would delete something useful.

Also please note that I have a digital video recorder (DVR) which hooks up to my computer, and so I believe there are ActiveX controls associated with that, which may look suspicious in my registry--not sure about that.

Keep Getting Knocked Off the Internet - HijackThis
« Reply #3 on: November 12, 2005, 11:50:01 AM »
Sorry for the delay, had problems accessing the forum

Can you do the following please
Redownload Hijackthis from my signature below and save it too a permanent folder on your harddrive
ONLY run hijackthis from this new location

I'm going to try some cleanup in your log first and then use a couple tools for more cleanup later
See if we can buy you more time to be online

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O2 - BHO: psic Class - {B6598677-4B54-42A9-BA67-8B64E3FCD92D} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\psic1_2.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LimeShop] wjview /cp:p "C:\Program Files\LimeShop\System\Code" Main lp: "C:\Program Files\LimeShop"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [XXXmpegs] C:\Program Files\SCom\Dialers\XXXmpegs\XXXmpegs.exe /dontdial

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Error Nuker] C:\Program Files\Error Nuker\bin\ErrorNuker.exe autostart
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RecoverFromReboo] C:\WINDOWS\Temp\RECOVE~1.EXE
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] c:\freescan\freescan.exe -FastScan
O8 - Extra context menu item: LimeShop Preferences - file://C:\Program Files\LimeShop\System\Temp\limeshop_script0.htm

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/1631ddb4a29bed...ip/RdxIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {DBA230D1-8467-4e69-987E-5FAE815A3B45} -

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows
==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders,cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup! 4.0
Don't run it yet

==Download and then Install
Ewido Security Suite

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Check for updates with Ad-aware, make sure you are right up to date, then close it now, we'll need it later

Please print the rest of these instructions or save them too notepad for reference
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads, or use the link I supplied an alternate method

Find and delete the following files or folders if found
C:\WINDOWS\System32\psic1_2.dll <-file
c:\freescan <-folder
C:\Program Files\SCom <-folder

==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

    * Empty Recycle Bins
    * Delete Cookies
    * Delete Prefetch files
    * Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer

==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
  *1. Perform Action = Remove
  *2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
  *3. Perform action with all infections
  Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido

Open Ad-Aware
Click START
Click the radio button to Perform a Full system scan then click NEXT
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

Restart back to Normal mode

Come back here and post a fresh hijackthis log along with the report from Ewido's
