W2K administrator.000

Anyone see this problem yet?

I have 4 drives in my system, I removed the 4th (data only), and W2K created a new Administrator profile (administrator.000), and all my user settings (including Outlook 2000) are reset to those of a new user.

If anyone knows how I can get it back to the original profile, please reply.  Thanks.

Also, re-attaching the 4th drive did not solve the problem. And I\'ve tried creating a new user (XYZ) with admin privileges, logging in and copying all files/folders from C:Documents and SettingsAdministrator to the Administrator.000 folder and logging back in as administrator.  No luck.

Thanks.

Make any file or folder isn\'t hidden anymore and look what are the contents of this administrator.000 folder . See if it is the same as the first administrator .You can probably get rid of the smallest one , I have no administrator folder in w2k anymore (only one with my name , users , and default user ) I am the only one using my computer , there are no other users . But this reflects the settings in your registry so make a good backup of the drive with your w2k on it  before changing anything  crucial .

I don\'t think you can do anything about it. This .000 thing happened to me because I resintalled Win2k on top of the first installation. To get rid of this you have to do a clean install.

Hi!

To go back to your original profile you should try to copy your original user profile ADMINISTRATOR to ADMINISTRATOR.000. You must use CONTROL PANEL--->SYSTEM--->Advanced--->User Profile to copy you Profile.

To manually copy files by using explorer might not work, unless if you have changed some values in win2k registry,

It is recomended that u use different account than the one u\'r trying to manipulate their profile ( it seeems to like it is impossible to  copy the profile of currently logged user)

Just to add:

Occasionally NT will add a new user profile despite the fact that you want to maintain an existing user profile. For example, if a jdoe user profile already exists, NT might add a jdoe.000 or jdoe.001 user profile. These profile extensions can be confusing, but you can easily fix the problem by editing the Registry to point the logon to the original user profile. Start regedt32.exe, and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList. Locate the appropriate user profile SID, as Screen 1 shows, and double-click the ProfileImagePath listing on the right. When the String Editor window opens, remove the extension (e.g., .000 or .001) from the path string to point the user\'s new logon to the original profile. Repeat this process for all other user profiles.
