Atlas 10K will not go into powersave
« on: November 11, 2001, 07:06:50 AM »
I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 P4 1.4 into which I have installed an Adaptec 29160 and a 30Gig Quantum Atlas 10K 36WLS.

I run Win2k sp1 or Red Hat Linux 7.1

The powersave options are set in Win to spin the disks down after 3 mins since the Atlas is used exclusively for Linux. It will not spin down until I go into Device Manager and disable and re-enable the dirve, in which case it spins down 3 mins later. Any ideas??

btw - think twice about buying a Dell pc if you are going to put high revving disks in it. The case looks pretty cool, but the disk makes the case vibrate and the noise is deafening!!!

thanks for any help

Can\'t help you with the spinning, but the noise is easily removed... I have the Atlas10k in one of my servers, and have put it in a NoVibes Harddisc Vibration Decoupling, which took care of the noise... Highly recommended!
