So, is there any way of changing the palette from its default 16-color palette? I\'d like to make it a picture of, say, the latest Enterprise, but with their 16-color palette it looks kinda nasty.

No, there isn\'t any way of changing the default palette. The boot screen will not work with any images higher than 16 color(note: not 16-bit).

So there is no way to create a new 16 colour palette and store it in a dll or wherever? How did ya get hold of the palette used for the standard ones then?

Bit of a bugga cause the colours they give you really suck.

How can i use the \"Maintain Indexes\" feature from PaintShop7 in Photoshop? I didn\'t find a similar function ?!

No, there is no way to import your own palette.We extracted the palette from Image 5 in the ntoskrnl.exe.

Check this site here for an extensive gallery of win2k boot logos. You can use these and modify them to fit your winXP boot screen. Note: Make sure you convert these to 16 color bitmaps, otherwise they will not work.

There is no \"Maintain Indexes\" option in Photoshop because if you use the palette provided in the tutorial, it will automatically load the palette correctly.

can u modify the size for the new \"scroll\" and \"professional\" bitmap?

or do they have to be the EXACT same size as the original?

I don\'t see why you would want to, but, I think if you increase the size of the image, only the portion that is the original size will show. I, however, have not tried this.

From the menu:

Image -> Mode -> Color Table -> Load (16.act)

Can someone please help me?

I have changed the logos and everything to the way I want them, but when I try saving the new logos in Photoshop 6 it doesn\'t give me the choice (at all) to save them as 16 bits.

It only lets me save them in 8 and 4. What am I doing wrong?

Is there a way i can delete the \"Professional\" logo, i think its \"10\"

to get rid of the professional bmp, try making it a 1x1 bmp, just a tiny black dot, that way the pic is still there but not not visible

I have over 10 b/s uplod on themexp.org ..
You can delete any Bitmap,like 5,6,7 or 10 ..
My b/s only have image 1,2,3 and 6 !!

I have loaded the file into Photoshop OK and edited it, but I find that any pure white parts of the image become transparent when put back into ntoskrnl.exe There seem to be two whites in the color palette... How do I get white to appear as white in the final bitmap?

Just so you all know, I found a program that modifies the kernel so that you can use whatever 16 colors you want. Here is the forum i found it in:

Sorry, but the posting you mentioned is about log on screens, not boot screens.
