Can someone tell me what just happened?
« on: December 03, 2005, 03:00:34 AM »
I was autosurfing StudioTraffic in Firefox, and visiting another forum in Netscape. Suddenly my computer shut off, then rebooted. When it came back up, and I got back online. The entire history in Firefox was gone. The cookies were still here, but the typed in URLs and pages visited history were not.
Some kind of malware on the autosurf web site?

Edit: I am currently running Norton Internet Security 2005

Almost forgot about you leonjr1964

For starters, can you do the following please
Access your Add/Remove programs via control panel and remove
Nielsen//NetRatings

I would also remove BPS Spyware-Adware Remover 8.2.0.9
It's bogus, here's a link that explains it
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Did you have SPYBOT installed at one time or another???
I see a registry key related to it that may be a leftover
I don't see it in your uninstall list that you supplied
We should make sure you have the latest version Spybot 1.4
Before we're done

Can we do the following please
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {031B6D43-CBC4-46A5-8E46-CF8B407C1A33} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: WSR_IEplug - {4E9CAE1A-545D-48EA-8EEF-4D1DB6695AD3} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NetMeter] C:\Program Files\NetRatingsNetmeter\NetMeter\NielsenOnline.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpybotSD TeaTimer] C:\Utilities\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe

O16 - DPF: {88D969C0-F192-11D4-A65F-0040963251E5} (XML DOM Document 4.0) - file://C:\TempEI4\EI40_\msxml4.cab

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Reboot your computer

Back in Windows
Find and delete the following folders if found
C:\Program Files\NetRatingsNetmeter
C:\Program Files\BPS Spyware
Post back a fresh hijackthis log

Starting from the top...
First, Nielsen//NetRatings was done as a point offer for another site, and really needs to stay on until I get credit for it, but if it's causing a problem, I'll get rid of it sooner.
Second, BPS is on the way out for other reasons I'll explain in a minute. I dont even use it.
Third, Spybot was installed at one time, but was removed because it caused my Panda Intenet Security to keep crashing. Panda wont run alongside other internet security software, so I removed it, and installed Norton until I have time to completely remove all other security software.
Will post the log later today or tomorrow.

My browsers are still crashing all the time. Just before Netscape crashes, I get a window which says, "Javascript Application," in the title bar, and just question marks all over the page. With Firefox and Opera, there is no warning. I just get the, "opera.exe," or, "firefox.exe, has encountered a problem and needs to close," then the option to report the error. No system crashes since removing the items you told me to remove.

Let's try something

Go into Windows Control Panel
Double click to open the Java icon
Under the Cache tab>>Clear Cache

Access your add/remove programs and remove
Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_04

Although you won't be prompted to reboot the computer
Please restart anyways
Back in Windows

Go to this link
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Download the latest version of Sun Java

Choose the
Windows (Offline Installation)
It's a 16mb download

Save it too your desktop and then double click to install
Follow the prompts

After it is installed let me know if the errors go away
